What is Ophthalmology?

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine that specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists perform annual exams, treat eye-related diseases, prescribe medicine and treatments, and/or perform surgeries. Is it the same as optometry?

Nope! Optometrists and opticians are different from ophthalmologists. An optometrist can examine eyes for problems and correct minor errors with glasses or contacts, while an ophthalmologist is who you go to for severe eye problems or surgery. Opticians are the ones who fit you for glasses and sell other eyewear you might need.
