Laboratory Microscopes and Accessories
A laboratory is one of the most vital areas in medical care. It’s where bio-samples are tested for disease and research is conducted. In the lab, one of the most important pieces of equipment is the microscope, as it allows technicians to study their samples and achieve accurate results. MFI carries high-quality, renowned laboratory microscopes, as well as the accessories needed for a seamless lab experience.
Types of Lab Microscopes
Compound microscopes are the typical standard microscope you would find in a laboratory setting. They consist of a base with a bottom illuminator (light source), the neck, a rotating nose of objective lenses, eyepieces, and a stage with clips to hold the sample slide in place. There are a variety of compound microscopes available, and here are a few options:
Inverted Microscopes
While standard microscopes have the illumination from the bottom of the slide, an inverted microscope has the illumination coming from the top. The eyepiece placement remains in a similar place, but viewers will see the slide from the bottom instead of the top.
Monocular, Binocular, and Trinocular Microscopes
These three types are the typical microscopes you would find in a laboratory, and can serve a variety of purposes. The monocular scopes are more suited for college level laboratory instruction and offer a quick look at the specimen.
Binocular microscopes, such as the Unico G380 Binocular Microscope, give a clear, two-eyepiece view, designed with comfort and clarity in mind. A trinocular microscope such as the Unico G383 Trinocular Microscope is unique in that it offers the expected binocular view with an additional eyepiece placed at the top. This offers three different viewpoints, and some models offer a camera to replace the third eyepiece for research and recording. These microscopes are suitable for research institutes and medical units that study living cells.
Cleaning Your Microscope
Laboratory microscopes are incredibly powerful, but are also delicate and must be handled with care. This includes how lab technicians should clean the microscope. Unico offers an optical cleaning kit that includes a lens cloth, tissue pack, and specialized cleaning solution for the lenses.
Cleaning Tips:
- If dirt is present on the eyepiece, blow off residue with a compressed air can or small brush (do not use sprays with cleaners).
- Never use acetone on plastic parts, as it may dissolve the material.
- Use lens cleaning solutions for larger stains.
- Base and neck can be wiped down for dust.
Cameras and Recording Equipment
Cameras can be attached to the laboratory microscope to record testing and the results, in order to archive the results for the physician or for the patient. The cameras are small and unobtrusive, but are fully capable of recording results of experiments on slides. Unico and Seiler are just a few brands that offer impressive, attachable cameras designed for microscopes.
Accessories for Laboratory Microscopes
MFI Medical not only carries reputable laboratory microscopes, but also all the accessories needed to keep that microscope running smoothly such as,replacement or additional lenses, eye pieces, light bulbs (for illuminators), adapters, polarizing filters, mirrors, and more.
