What is Ophthalmology?
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine that specializes in eye and vision care.Ophthalmologists perform annual exams, treat eye-related diseases, prescribe medicine and treatments, and/or perform surgeries. The eye is a delicate and powerful optic organ, and must be cared for as closely as the rest of a patient’s bodily health. As such, ophthalmology requires top-shelf optical equipment, efficient lighting, and handheld equipment for when the need arises.
Is it the same as optometry?
Nope! Optometrists and opticians are different from ophthalmologists. An optometrist can examine eyes for problems and correct minor errors with glasses or contacts, while an ophthalmologist is who you go to for severe eye problems or surgery. Opticians are the ones who fit you for glasses and sell other eyewear you might need.
Equipment that Every Ophthalmologist Needs
To provide the best care for patients with eye-related issues, an ophthalmologist must have the best equipment available within reach. This includes:
- Diagnostic Sets.
- Ophthalmic Lights.
- Surgery Lights.
- Eye Surgery Stretchers and Accessories.
- Stretcher Chairs.
At MFI Medical, we carry all of these and more to fully equip an ophthalmology office. Having trouble finding what you need? Don’t hesitate to give us a call and one of our knowledgeable team members will be happy to help.
MFI doesn’t just supply ophthalmoscopes and ophthalmic microscopes, we also carry all the other little essentials that an ophthalmologist needs for their clinic. These include room lights, hygiene equipment, wall mounted diagnostic sets, blood monitor accessories, and more.
Ophthalmoscopes vs Ophthalmic Microscopes: What’s the Difference?
There’s actually quite a difference between the two, but it’s easy to mix them up by name alone! Ophthalmoscopes are devices that allow doctors to shine a light into the eye and analyze the retina, optic disc, and blood vessels of the eye. An ophthalmic microscope is typically used in surgery, and provides optimal and accurate magnification for these procedures.
