Hot and Cold Therapy
The Benefits of Hot and Cold Therapy
Hot and cold therapy is a common method to improve circulation or reduce pain and inflammation during therapeutic sessions. Heat therapy is available in dry or moist heat forms, and helps with increasing circulation and relaxing stiff muscles. Cold therapy can relieve pain, bruising, swelling, and muscle spasms. These temperature therapy methods are most commonly used in physical therapy and sports medicine.
Types of Packs
The MD LipoBelt Compression garments are typically used in cold therapy for more efficient relief from inflammation, pain, and swelling. When used in conjunction with cold packs for specific amounts of time, this can remedy varying stages of pain or inflammation.
ICE20 combines both compression pads and a cold pack into one garment known as a compression wrap. ICE20 specializes in compression wraps for the joints or broad areas of the body, such as the shoulder, knee, neck, or lower back.
Hot and Cold Packs
Hot and cold packs are available in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit all contours of the body. Chattanooga offers a variety of moist hot packs and freezer packs, as well as the means to heat or cool them with in-office hydrocollators or chilling units. These can be applied directly to the patient's skin, or wrapped in terry cloth covers for protection.
