What is Fat Grafting?

Fat grafting is the process of removing excess fat from one area of the body and transferring it to another area to increase the size or repair tissues. It’s also known as fat injecting or lipofilling. Cosmetic surgeons use this procedure to correct superficial issues such as sunken cheeks, deep grooves and lines, lip enhancement, breast augmentation and more.

The surgeon removes the excess fat, usually from the abdomen or thigh, and it’s processed into a liquid tissue and readied for injection. Since it utilizes the patient’s own tissue as filling, the body reabsorbs a small percentage of the fat and leaves behind a smooth surface. 

Syringes and Injection Guns

These are the tools needed to inject the liquid fat into the patient’s problem areas. Syringes measure out the fluid, and the injection gun ensures a slow, precise application of the tissue. Syringe snap locks are available to “lock” fluids into the syringe and reduce the risk of spilling or taking too large a sample. MFI also carries other finite accessories, including adapters, tip caps, luer locks, cannula, and caps. For organizational purposes, MFI also carries syringe racks to keep samples separated and labeled.
