The Benefits of Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring
April 03, 2019No pregnancy is risk free, but some are especially high-risk. Women who suffer from life long chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, blood disorders, kidney disease, depression, HIV or AIDS, lupus, or thyroid disease may be particularly susceptible to a high-risk pregnancy.
Just because your pregnancy has been deemed high-risk however doesn’t mean that you can’t give birth to a healthy baby. One of the best ways to monitor your pregnancy is through the process of fetal heart monitoring.
Fetal heart rate monitoring is the measurement of the heart rate and rhythm of your baby. And, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine , “your healthcare provider may do fetal heart monitoring during late pregnancy and labor. The average fetal heart rate is between 110 and 160 beats per minute. It can vary by 5 to 25 beats per minute. The fetal heart rate may change as your baby responds to conditions in your uterus. An abnormal fetal heart rate may mean that your baby is not getting enough oxygen or that there are other problems...Fetal heart rate monitoring may be used to check how preterm labor medicines are affecting your baby. These medicines are used to help keep labor from starting too early.”
Fortunately, at MFI Medical we carry an extensive selection of fetal monitors and accessories to ensure every baby receives the best possible care.

This Edan fetal heart monitor is equipped with a waterproof interchangeable probe of your choice (recommended standard: 3 MHz), a normal carry case, a backlight, audio playback, and audio output which can be connected with earphones or a recorder. The 2 and/or 3 MHz waterproof probes are recommended for the detection of fetal heart rate from early gestation through delivery and as a general indication of fetal well being. They can also be used to verify fetal heart viability following patient trauma. The 4 and/or 8 MHz waterproof vascular probes are designed for the detection of blood flow in veins and arteries to assist in the detection of peripheral vascular disease.
