Masimo®: Manufacturer Spotlight
September 07, 2017Masimo leads the market in the world of Patient Monitors, Sensors, and Pulse Oximeters. They offer a variety of Pulse Oximeters on the cutting edge of technology to suit the individual needs of clinicians and patients.
Masimo is best known for creating Signal Extraction Technology (SET). SET solved a huge problem in the field of patient monitoring. Whereas in traditional pulse oximetry, patient movement could interfere with readings, SET uses adaptive filters to overcome the patient mobility problem. SET digitizes, filters, and normalizes pulse signals, thereby obtaining an accurate reading, with significantly less false alarms than traditional pulse oximetry.
Over 100 studies have shown that Masimo SET outperforms all other pulse oximetry technologies, providing clinicians with the accurate information needed to make the right critical care decisions for their patients.
Choosing a Pulse Oximeter
At MFI, we carry the latest Masimo products at the best prices available. When it comes to choosing a pulse oximeter, it is important to consider the needs of both clinicians and patients. If patient mobility is a concern, consider the highly portable Radius-7.
Radius-7
The Radius-7 is specifically designed to promote greater patient comfort and independence. This small, lightweight, and wearable oximeter allows untethered monitoring and ambulation, reducing the need for nurses to disconnect the monitor each time the patient gets out of bed. The Radius-7 is worn on the upper arm with an oximeter attached to the finger and a sensor on the neck, and it connects wirelessly to the Root platform, allowing ambulating patients to roam the clinic while being continuously monitored. Studies show patient mobility is a key factor in hastening patient recovery.
The Radius-7 measures SpO, Pulse Rate, and Perfusion Index. Additional measuring capabilities are available as options at the time of purchase. These options include Total Hemoglobin SpHb, Methemoglobin SpMet, Carboxyhemoglobin SpCO, and Oxygen Content SpOC.
MightySat Rx
For an affordable, compact, and simple solution for pulse oximetry, we offer the MightySat Rx, a tiny but powerful oximeter which secures to a patient's finger. Masimo supplies a free downloadable Professional Health App which syncs up to the MightySat Rx, allowing users to view measurements on compatible smart devices.
For such a small device, the MightySat performs an array of measurements. With just a fingertip connection, the MightySat can obtain SpO, Pulse Rate, Perfusion Index, and Pleth Variability Index. It also features a high resolution, touchscreen display, a luxury perk for a fingertip oximeter.
Rad-5
The Rad-5 is a handheld oximeter ideal for spot-check applications. It features a large, easy to read color display and an easy to use interface for quick setup and alarm management. The Rad-5 has configurable startup settings and up to 72 hours of trending memory. It can easily be carried from room to room to monitor multiple patients.
With the optional protective boot cover and built-in table-top stand, the portable Rad-5 can be converted to a bedside oximeter for continuous patient monitoring.
