The Material Difference

Latex: Latex is one of the most common materials in glove manufacturing, known for its elasticity and comfort. Some are also powder-coated or have slick lining to make them easier for donning in a hurry. For decades, latex has reigned supreme as the most safe and cost-effective glove available. However, thanks to its rise in popularity, so too did the occurrences of allergic reactions. As a result, there has become more demand for alternative glove materials.

Nitrile: Nitrile is often a common substitute for those who have latex allergies, but stands on its own merits as being puncture-resistant, body fluid-resistant, and chemical-resistant. It may not be as flexible as latex, but they’re more suited for medical environments, with their resistance to instruments and hazardous chemicals.

Vinyl: Vinyl gloves are constructed from PVC, and are relatively more durable than both latex or nitrile. However, when stretched they’re poorly resistant against chemical and hazardous material exposure. As a result, these gloves are more suited for low risk environments.

Polyethylene: This material is more economical and appropriate for light duty tasks that require frequent glove changes, such as food handling and preparation. They’re typically loose-fitting for quick donning or removal, but are powder-free and latex-free for those with allergies.

Chloroprene: Chloroprene combines the advantages of latex and nitrile. It offers the same comfortable fit and feel of a latex glove, paired with the tensile strength and protection that nitrile is known for. In addition, they’re flame-resistant and perform well in wet and dry environments.

Skin-Friendly Gloves

If someone has a latex allergy, dermatitis sensitivity, or frequently dons gloves during all work hours, a skin-friendly alternative is the best choice. Tested for Quality

All Sempermed gloves have been rigorously tested to perform, and have been approved for a variety of cases.
