Collection: Phlebotomy Carts

What is Phlebotomy?

A phlebotomist is a medical professional who manages and administers blood draws, then uses the blood for diagnosis, transfusion, or research. They prepare patients for blood draws, coach them through it, and help patients who may have adverse reactions to having blood drawn. Phlebotomists also label and inventory the blood samples, along with the vital equipment used in the process.

What is a Phlebotomy Cart?

A phlebotomy cart is a mobile workstation that has all the supplies needed for drawing blood and storing it safely for testing later. These are typically mounted on caster wheels for easy mobility, and come with lots of storage options such as drawers and flat storage.

At MFI Medical, we offer a wide range of Clinton and Harloff-brand phlebotomy carts, stands, and stations, including those designed for pediatric patients. Each of these options can be ideal for your clinical space, depending on your needs. Let’s take a look at the options available.

Stands vs Carts vs Stations

Phlebotomy Stands: These are a minimalist design, consisting of an adjustable stand, caster wheels, a flat surface and a storage basket. Since these are quite minimal, it makes them easier to work around tight spaces or crowded clinics.

Phlebotomy Carts: Carts have more storage options available, with drawers and boxes to store vital equipment needed to draw blood. Clinton carts are more minimalist with one or two drawers/boxes for storage, and are lower priced. Harloff carts are on the opposite end of the spectrum, and have a plethora of storage drawers, including a few with hanging compartments.

Phlebotomy Station: These stations are not wheeled, and so are non-mobile. As such, they’re often intended for infant or pediatric patients who may feel anxious during a blood draw.

Pediatric-Friendly Phlebotomy Furniture

When it comes to drawing blood from younger patients, the clinical environment can be intimidating and anxiety inducing. With any of the phlebotomy options mentioned above, there are pediatric-friendly additions available to help ease the process and the anxiety of young children. The pediatric phlebotomy carts and stations have colorful themed designs to distract pediatric patients from the process. Clinton also has blood drawing stations fashioned into buses and fire trucks, complete with a flip arm, armrests, seat, and backrest.
