Collection: Endoscopy
What is an Endoscopy?
Endoscopies are procedures reserved for analyzing the digestive system and internal organs, and diagnosing any conditions or diseases that are discovered there. These procedures involve an endoscope, which is a handheld camera that is small enough to be inserted into the patient's orifices in order to see inside. These types of examinations are vital to patients experiencing serious symptoms that could jeopardize their health.
What are Rigid and Flexible Endoscopes?
The big difference between these two types of endoscopes is right in the names: a flexible tube structure versus a stiff, rigid one. Both have their advantages and price points, though flexible endoscopes tend to be used more often.
A rigid endoscope is used in minimally invasive procedures where a physician needs a superficial look inside the body. These procedure areas can include the nose, throat, or rectum.
A flexible endoscope is the best choice for internal organs that have bends and turns, such as the heart or digestive system. These types of endoscopes are flexible and curved, which can be controlled by the clinician during the procedure. The clinician will determine which endoscope type is best, but patients can discuss the advantages of either.

Endoscope Accessories
The endoscope itself is actually just one part of the system required to get a safe and thorough look at a patient's internal organs. Additional accessories can keep your endoscopes clean and functional, as well as ensure accurate results. For example, the ConMed CleanCage Endoscope Valve-Tracking System handles and tracks endoscope valves during reprocessing after a procedure. For biopsies, ConMed Biopsy Channel Accessory Introducer ensures a clear path for sample-taking tools such as injection needles, brushes, and catheters. Cleaning brushes and trays are also essential to cleansing endoscopes after use and preventing cross-contamination between uses.
