Emergency Medicine
What is Emergency Medicine?
Emergency Medicine (EMS) is the response and care given to at-risk patients outside of a hospital setting. Whether out in the field or in an active emergency care center, first responders need the optimum tools and equipment on hand to better treat patients. Emergency equipment must be sterile or disposable to avoid cross-contamination, or capable of functioning in harsh environments.
Emergency Equipment Available
Stretchers and Hospital Beds
MFI offers a variety of stretchers and hospital beds that can withstand terrain, stairs, and obstructions in emergency situations. Stryker’s evacuation chairs can efficiently be transported down stairs without issue. Ferno’s ambulance cots are available in both new and certified pre-owned models. Additionally, Allied Healthcare offers splints, disposable stretchers, and immobilization boards.
Oxygen Supply
Having a reliable oxygen supply, and all the devices needed to transport it, is a critical component of patient safety in an emergency. Such necessary devices include aspirators, resuscitators, ventilators, and oxygen cylinders.
Patient Monitors and Diagnostics
In addition to transport and oxygen, it’s important to have the means to diagnose and monitor a patient quickly. These include devices as small as pulse oximeters, to diagnostic machines for ECG/EKG monitoring or fetal monitoring. Advanced anesthesia machines are also available for use in emergency response centers, as well as defibrillation pads for resuscitation.
Medical Lights
It’s not just portable devices that are vital to the rescue and recovery of patients in emergency situations. MFI offers a variety of medical lighting for trauma centers and emergency rooms, providing bright halogen or LED light in order to better treat patients. These lights vary in intensity and mounting styles, such as ceiling, floorstand, and wall mounts.
Consumables
It’s important to maintain a supply of sterile equipment to avoid cross-contamination, for both the injured patients and the first responders. MFI carries many disposables including masks, tubing, gloves, electrodes, bandages, burn dressings, disposable stretchers and more. Stainless steel tools, such as scissors and forceps, are best as reusable tools that are easy to sterilize.
