Description

The SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor (# 1401) with standard DIN connectors employs a high thermal mass design. This provides improved correlation with flow values as well as temperature values.

Warranty: 6 Months - Free of Defects in Materials and Quality Workmanship.

Designed with stiff prongs that are adjustable for patient comfort, these sturdy and durable sensors will deliver a smooth flow signal throughout the night.

Comprised of heat-sensitive elements, the respiration flow sensor is placed under the patient's nostrils and produces a signal that is directly proportional to the temperature changes of air inhaled and exhaled during respiration. The sensor generates a small analog electrical voltage that provides a clear, reliable indication of respiration airflow.

The sensor should be connected to your system's thermal-flow input or, when using the interface, to any AC (low level) channel on the recorder.

NOTE: SleepSense items are for professional use only, and are for sale by or on the order of a physician only.

Frequently asked questions

What PSG systems are compatible with this sensor?

The SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor (Model #1401) is designed for broad compatibility with professional Polysomnography (PSG) equipment. It connects using standard DIN connectors to thermal-flow inputs or low-level AC channels on a compatible recorder. This sensor is compatible with systems from major manufacturers, including:

  • CareFusion: SensorMedics Viasys and SomnoStar z4
  • Cadwell: Easy III
  • CompuMedics: Grael HD PSG, Somte, and E Series
  • Natus: Sandman 32, Xltek, Biologic, Grass, and Stellate
  • Nihon Kohden: Polysmith
  • NeuroVirtual: BWII PSG/EEG
Which connectors ensure system compatibility?

The SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor features standard DIN connectors to ensure broad compatibility with professional polysomnography (PSG) equipment. This standardized connectivity allows for seamless integration into your monitoring system via one of the following methods:

  • Directly to the dedicated thermal-flow input channel on the recording equipment.
  • Through an appropriate interface to any AC (low level) channel on a compatible recorder.
Does the SleepSense sensor include adjustable prongs for comfort?

Yes, the SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor (Model 1401) is designed with patient comfort in mind. It features stiff, adjustable nasal/oral prongs that are optimized for use during long monitoring sessions in polysomnography (PSG).

How does the sensor connect to the monitoring system?

The SleepSense Flow Sensor utilizes standard DIN connectors for broad compatibility.

It connects to the monitoring system via one of the following methods:

  • Directly to the system’s thermal-flow input.
  • To any available AC (low level) channel on the recording equipment, provided an appropriate interface is used.
What is the sensor's signal output for normal respiration?

The SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor generates a clear flow signal. For normal respiration, the signal output is approximately 0.2 mV. This small analog electrical voltage is produced by detecting temperature changes of the inhaled and exhaled air, making the voltage directly proportional to the respiration airflow.

What is the storage humidity range for this sensor?

The SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor can be safely stored within a humidity range of 5 to 95% (non-condensing).

Is a prescription required to purchase the SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor?

Yes, the SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor is available for sale by or on the order of a physician only.

What is the safe operating temperature range?

The SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor is designed to operate safely and accurately within a temperature range of 40 to 104 °F (5 to 40 °C). It is important to maintain these conditions during monitoring sessions to ensure a clear respiration signal.

For storage, the acceptable temperature range is wider, spanning from -4 to 140 °F (-20 to 60 °C).

Does the sensor provide clear signals?

Yes, the SleepSense Adult ThermoCouple Flow Sensor uses heat-sensitive elements to produce an analog electrical voltage directly proportional to temperature changes. This design ensures a clear and reliable signal output for accurate respiration airflow monitoring.
