Frequently asked questions

Is the high-quality polypropylene autoclavable?

Yes, the Simport Biotube Tubes are constructed from high-quality, autoclavable polypropylene.

This crucial feature ensures the tubes can undergo sterilization processes for applications requiring the utmost sterility, such as HTLV-III testing, receptor binding assays, and sensitive cell culture studies.

Important Note: While the tubes are autoclavable, the accompanying plug caps are made of polyethylene and are not intended for autoclaving.

Are these Biotube tubes used for specialized laboratory procedures?

Yes, Simport Biotube Tubes are precision-engineered for critical, demanding laboratory applications requiring reliable containment and thermal tolerance in small volumes. The functional working volume is 1.1ml when capped.

They are ideal for a wide array of specialized procedures, including:

  • HTLV-III testing
  • Bacterial and Hybridoma cell uptake studies
  • Receptor binding assays
  • RIA and EIA methods
  • Pharmaceutical quality control protocols

A key feature is their construction from durable, autoclavable polypropylene, making them suitable for applications requiring sterilization. Variants are also available with low surface tension for optimal handling of sensitive or viscous samples.

Are both the tubes and caps autoclavable?

The tubes and caps utilize different materials, resulting in distinct sterilization guidelines:

  • The Simport Biotube Tubes themselves are constructed from autoclavable polypropylene, suitable for heat sterilization.
  • However, the accompanying plug caps are made of polyethylene and are explicitly not autoclavable. They should not be subjected to the high heat required for steam sterilization.
What is the capped working volume?

The Simport Biotube Tubes are engineered for precise volume handling, especially when dealing with sensitive laboratory procedures such as cell studies and assays.

  • Capped Working Volume: The functional volume when the polyethylene cap is securely fastened is 1.1 ml.
  • Gross Volume: The maximum capacity of the tube itself is 1.2 ml.
What configurations and specialty options are offered?

The Simport Biotube Tubes are available in a variety of configurations and specialty options to accommodate diverse laboratory workflows, including high-throughput processes.

Key Configurations:

  • Strips: Both the tubes and the plug caps are available in connected strips of 8 or 12 units, which is ideal for use in multi-well plate systems and automated liquid handling.
  • Individual Units: Components can also be purchased separately as standalone individual units in bulk quantities.

Specialty Options:

  • Sterility: You can choose between Sterile and Non-Sterile formats, depending on your application requirements.
  • Surface Tension: A specific variant featuring Low Surface Tension (LST) is available. LST is crucial for sensitive assays to minimize the non-specific binding or adherence of proteins and biological fluids to the tube walls.
What Biotube tube configuration options exist?

The Simport Biotube Tubes are highly versatile and available in multiple configurations to suit specific laboratory requirements.

Available Configurations

  • Format: Tubes are offered as striits of 8 or strips of 12, or as individual tubes. Corresponding plug caps are also sold separately (in strips or individually).
  • Sterility: Choose between Sterile and Non-Sterile packaging.
  • Surface Tension: Variants include tubes with standard surfaces or those with Low Surface Tension (LST) for maximum sample retention.

Key Usage Details

  • The tubes provide a functional working volume of 1.1 ml when capped (1.2 ml gross volume).
  • The tube body, made of polypropylene, is autoclavable. However, the polyethylene caps are not autoclavable.
Are the high-quality Biotube tubes autoclavable?

Yes, the Simport Biotube Tubes are constructed from autoclavable polypropylene. This material allows the tubes to be safely sterilized, supporting reuse and ensuring laboratory hygiene for sensitive procedures.

Important Note: While the tubes are autoclavable, the associated plug caps are made of polyethylene and are not autoclavable.

Are these tubes suitable for specialized assays?

Yes, Simport Biotube Tubes are high-quality laboratory consumables specifically designed for a wide range of demanding biological and analytical procedures. They are highly recommended for use in critical applications, including:

  • HTLV-III testing
  • Receptor binding assays, RIA, and EIA
  • Studies involving bacterial and hybridoma cell uptake
  • Cell harvesting and pharmaceutical quality control
