The Clarity Diagnostics Clarity Urocheck Ketone Urine Reagent Strips are intended for single use in both professional point-of-care and centralized laboratory settings. These strips aid in screening at-risk patients and assist diagnosis in areas such as kidney function, urinary tract infections, carbohydrate metabolism, liver function, acid-base balance, and urine concentration. The results obtained from these strips should be used in conjunction with other diagnostic information for a comprehensive evaluation.

These strips utilize the reaction of ketones with nitroprusside and acetoacetic acid, resulting in a color change ranging from light pink (negative results) to darker pink or purple (positive results). Ketones are typically absent in urine, but their presence can be detected during physiological stress conditions such as fasting, pregnancy, and frequent strenuous exercise. Additionally, in situations involving starvation diets or other abnormal carbohydrate metabolism conditions, excessively high concentrations of ketones may appear in the urine before they are elevated in the serum.
