Description

Sklarlite Littauer Cutting Forceps are a lighter version of the standard, non-ratcheted, plier handle instrument used primarily for cutting nail and bone. This lightweight modification provides the user with greater control and less fatigue. As nail nippers they are used for nail debridement. They may also be used to nip delicate bones found in the facial and nasal region, or small animal (mice) veterinary procedures. The short, sharp blades are able to produce enough force to cut through thick nail and small bone, but delicate enough not to cause trauma to surrounding tissue or organs. This is particularly helpful with nail debridement which should be completed in short, small sections to avoid damage to the hyponychium. This product has straight jaws with smooth edges and an overall length of 4 inches. The back, outside edge of the blades is straight and tapers to a point.

Frequently asked questions

Does the lightweight design truly reduce hand fatigue?

Yes, the Sklarlite modification is specifically engineered for ergonomics. By reducing the overall weight compared to standard instruments, it minimizes hand strain during repetitive clinical tasks, allowing for prolonged use with greater comfort and control.

Can this be used for delicate veterinary procedures?

Absolutely. These forceps are highly effective in veterinary settings, particularly for procedures involving small animals such as mice, thanks to their precision-engineered short blades and refined, aerodynamic profile.

Is the stainless steel durable enough for professional use?

Yes, this instrument is crafted from high-grade stainless steel. It is built for the rigors of professional environments, ensuring durability and consistent performance for long-term clinical or surgical use.

Will these forceps easily handle thick nail debridement?

Yes, they are specifically designed for nail debridement. The sharp, short blades provide the necessary leverage to cut through thick nails cleanly while maintaining the precision required to avoid trauma to the surrounding delicate tissue.

Is the instrument safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, the Sklarlite Littauer Cutting Forceps are 100% latex-free. They are not manufactured with any natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for all patients and clinical staff.

Does the straight back blade design offer better control?

The straight back blade design is a key feature that allows practitioners to:

  • Navigate tight anatomical spaces with ease.
  • Perform cutting in small, controlled sections.
  • Protect sensitive areas like the hyponychium during procedures.
Is this tool suitable for facial and nasal bone cutting?

Yes, due to their specialized size and precision, these forceps are frequently utilized in ENT procedures for cutting delicate bones within the facial and nasal regions.

What is the benefit of the non-ratcheted plier handle?

The non-ratcheted, plier-style handle provides:

  • Maximum tactile feedback during procedures.
  • A fluid, manual cutting motion that is often preferred for high-frequency tasks where speed and precision are required.
Does this tool meet federal government procurement standards?

Yes, the Sklarlite Littauer Cutting Forceps are TAA compliant, meeting the requirements for products manufactured in designated countries for government procurement.

How should I maintain this instrument for longevity?

Since this is a high-quality, reusable stainless steel tool, it should be cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s standard protocols for reusable medical instrumentation. The instrument is backed by a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, provided it is used and cared for correctly.
