Description

Sklarlite Littauer Cutting Forceps are a lighter version of the standard, non-ratcheted, plier handle instrument used primarily for cutting nail and bone. As nail nippers they are used for nail debridement. They may also be used to nip delicate bones found in the facial and nasal region, or small animal (mice) veterinary procedures. The short, sharp blades are able to produce enough force to cut through thick nail and small bone, but delicate enough not to cause trauma to surrounding tissue or organs. This is particularly helpful with nail debridement which should be completed in short, small sections to avoid damage to the hyponychium. This product has straight jaws with smooth edges and an overall length of 5 inches. The back, outside edge of the blades is straight and tapers to a point.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool suitable for delicate podiatry procedures?

Yes, these forceps are specifically designed for precision tasks like nail debridement. Their short, sharp blades allow for small, incremental cuts, which is essential for protecting the hyponychium and surrounding delicate tissues during treatment.

Are these forceps durable enough for frequent professional use?

Absolutely. They are manufactured from high-grade stainless steel to meet Sklar Premium standards. Because they are designed for durability and long-term performance, they are also backed by a lifetime warranty.

Does the non-ratcheted design offer good control?

The plier-style handle is specifically engineered for manual, controlled operation. Without a ratchet lock, you have direct, tactile feedback for every cut, which is ideal for the precision required in both human podiatry and small animal veterinary procedures.

Can these be used for small animal veterinary work?

Yes, their design is versatile enough for specialized surgical tasks. They are commonly used for nipping small, delicate bones or providing precise cutting force in veterinary procedures where standard instruments might be too heavy or bulky.

How do these differ from standard Littauer cutting forceps?

The ‘Sklarlite’ series is an extra-light version of the traditional Littauer instrument. This reduced-weight design helps minimize hand fatigue during longer procedures while still providing the necessary force to cut through thick nails or small bone structures.

Are these forceps considered safe for latex-sensitive environments?

Yes. This product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for practitioners and patients with latex sensitivities.

Do I need to do anything to prepare these before first use?

Yes, these instruments are supplied non-sterile. You will need to properly clean and sterilize them according to your facility’s protocols for reusable surgical instruments before they are used in any procedure.

Is this instrument built to handle thick nail material?

The Sklarlite forceps are engineered with a specific focus on reduced trauma. The short, sharp blades are capable of generating sufficient force to sever thick nail material effectively while maintaining enough control to prevent injury to the surrounding delicate tissue.

Is this a TAA-compliant instrument?

Yes, this product is TAA Compliant, meaning it meets the specific trade requirements necessary for use in certain government or federal medical facilities.

Are these forceps easy to maneuver during detailed work?

With an overall length of 5 inches and a slender, lightweight profile, these forceps offer excellent maneuverability. The compact size and ergonomic plier handle allow for precise navigation in restricted areas, such as the nasal or facial regions.
