Description

Sklar's Sypert Double-Action Rongeur is a large, orthopedic instrument used for removing portions of bone or dense bony tissue. It is available with a variety of jaw sizes to suit the sections of bone requiring removal. Due to its overall size, it is most appropriately used on bone in unrestricted surgical sites where potential damage to surrounding structures is low. The neck of this rongeur is longer than most double-action rongeurs due to the greater distance between the hinges. Whereas most double action rongeurs feature all of the hinges in close proximity to one another, the first pivot hinge on this Sypert rongeur is a greater distance from the second, thus creating the long neck. The jaws have sharp, eliptical shape, scooping tips that gnaw away at the target area. The double spring, plier handles feature one horn on the upper handle to provide the user with a more comfortable and controlling grip. This product has smooth, 6mm wide, jaws with an overall length of 14-1/2 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Is this rongeur suitable for deep surgical access?

Yes. The Sklar Sypert Rongeur features a unique long-neck geometry created by spacing the pivot hinges further apart. This architectural design allows surgeons to reach deeper into surgical fields compared to standard double-action rongeurs.

How does the handle design reduce hand fatigue?

The instrument is designed with the clinician in mind to ensure long-term comfort:

Double-spring plier handle: Provides a smooth, responsive action.

Ergonomic horn: A specialized protrusion on the upper grip provides a secure, stable hold, significantly reducing hand fatigue during repetitive bony tissue resection.

Are the tips effective for precision bone removal?

Absolutely. The working end is engineered with sharp, elliptical, scooping jaws. These are specifically designed to effectively ‘gnaw’ away target bony tissue, providing the precision necessary for orthopedic procedures.

Is the stainless steel durable enough for frequent reuse?

Yes. The instrument is manufactured from high-quality, surgical-grade stainless steel. It is built for a long service life and is fully reusable, provided it follows standard clinical cleaning and sterilization protocols.

Does this tool contain any natural rubber latex?

No, the Sklar Sypert Rongeur is 100% latex-free, making it safe for use with patients or clinical staff who have natural rubber latex sensitivities.

What is the total length of the instrument?

The Sklar Sypert Rongeur measures 14-1/2 inches in total length, providing the necessary leverage and reach for procedures involving significant bony tissue removal.

Is the jaw width suitable for dense bone resection?

Yes, the jaws feature a 6mm width, which, combined with the double-action mechanism, offers the high leverage required to remove dense bone sections efficiently.

Does the instrument arrive in a sterile condition?

No, this product is delivered non-sterile. It must undergo proper cleaning and sterilization protocols in accordance with your facility’s guidelines before its first clinical use.

Is this instrument compliant with trade agreement standards?

Yes, the Sklar Sypert Rongeur is TAA compliant, meeting the requirements for procurement in various government and regulated clinical settings.

What kind of clinical environments is this best for?

This rongeur is specifically tailored for orthopedic surgery departments. It is an ideal choice for procedures that require significant bony tissue resection in unrestricted surgical sites where high leverage and deep access are essential.
