Description

The SklarSpec Disposable Graves Vaginal Speculum is a clear plastic speculum used for performing pelvic examinations, Pap Smears, and examining the cervix. It provides 360 degree visibility and one hand operation for the user and greatly reduces temperature shock commonly experienced by patients when a metal speculum is used. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. Because they are disposable, SklarSpec instruments reduce the likelihood of cross-contamination and eliminate sterilization and reprocessing time and costs. These instruments are available sterile or non-sterile, and in multiple sizes. SklarSpec instruments are available in bulk quantities.

Frequently asked questions

Does the plastic design help with patient comfort?

Yes, the clear plastic construction is specifically chosen to minimize the temperature shock that patients often experience with cold metal specula, making for a more comfortable examination experience.

Is this speculum easy for one-handed operation?

Absolutely. The SklarSpec is engineered for one-handed operation, allowing the practitioner to easily manage the external lever mechanism while maintaining focus on the procedure.

How does this compare to a Pederson speculum?

The SklarSpec uses the Graves design, which features wider blades. This makes it particularly effective for examinations where a broader blade surface is preferred based on specific patient anatomy.

Are these specula safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, these specula are 100% latex-free and are not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for patients with sensitivities.

What is the primary benefit of the disposable design?

The primary benefit is superior infection control. Because the devices are disposable, they:

  • Completely eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.
  • Remove the time and financial burden of sterilization and reprocessing.
Does the plastic material interfere with visibility?

No, the clear plastic is designed to provide 360-degree visibility, ensuring that practitioners have a clear, unobstructed view during clinical assessments.

How are these specula packaged for storage?

Each case contains 100 specula, organized into 10 convenient bags with 10 specula per bag. This packaging is designed for easy inventory management and accessibility in clinical settings.

Is there any special preparation required before use?

No special preparation is needed. These are ready-to-use sterile instruments. Please note that you should never boil or autoclave these, as they are strictly intended for single-use purposes.
