Description

Sklar's Spencer Chalazion Forceps are ophthalmologic thumb forceps used to evert the eyelid and expose chalazion for drainage and removal. This instrument has two circular tips. One is solid and the other is fenestrated. The chalazion on the eyelid is isolated between the two tips and the forceps are tightened by a lock, which pushes the chalazion upwards so the procedure can be completed. The size and consistency of the chalazion are primary factors when choosing which chalazion forceps to use. Larger chalazion, as well as those with hard matter, will require larger incisions. Therefore, forceps with larger tips may be more useful. Similarly, smaller chalazion, or those determined to contain only fluid, may be excised with smaller incisions and the use of forceps with a smaller diameter. Spencer chalazion forceps feature a unique sliding lock versus the more standard screw lock. This product is straight with smooth tips and a length of 3-5/8 inches. The diameter of the tips of this product is approximately 9.5mm.

Frequently asked questions

Does the sliding lock mechanism improve procedural control?

Yes, the unique sliding lock system is designed to provide superior manipulation compared to traditional screw-lock designs. This allows for a more secure, steady grip when isolating the chalazion, ensuring stability throughout the procedure.

Is this instrument crafted for long-term durability?

Absolutely. Manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, these forceps are built for longevity. They are specifically engineered as a reusable instrument, making them a reliable and durable addition to your surgical toolkit.

Are the tips designed to handle delicate eyelid tissue?

Yes. The forceps feature smooth working edges specifically engineered to minimize trauma during contact. This ensures that delicate eyelid tissue is treated with the precision required for ophthalmic procedures.

Is this instrument suitable for latex-sensitive surgical environments?

Yes, the Sklar Spencer Chalazion Forceps are manufactured without natural rubber latex, making them a safe and compliant choice for medical environments with specific material safety standards.

Does the tip configuration provide precise tissue isolation?

It certainly does. The instrument utilizes a dual-tip design: a solid tip that provides a firm backstop, and a fenestrated tip that allows for precise isolation. The tip diameter is approximately 9.5mm, which is ideal for most standard chalazion procedures.

Is this device compliant for use in government facilities?

Yes, these forceps are TAA compliant, meeting the necessary regulatory requirements for procurement in government and federal medical settings.

Should I sterilize this instrument before first use?

Yes. The product is supplied non-sterile. As a reusable surgical instrument, it must undergo appropriate cleaning and sterilization protocols according to your facility’s guidelines before it can be used in a clinical setting.

Is the instrument length designed for steady handling?

Yes, with an overall length of 3-5/8 inches, the instrument is balanced to provide the practitioner with excellent control and stability during the eversion and drainage of a chalazion.

Does the design help in achieving clean surgical results?

Yes, the straight, rigid construction combined with the sliding lock mechanism allows the surgeon to push the affected tissue upwards efficiently, facilitating cleaner drainage or removal compared to less specialized, standard tools.

Is this a genuine Sklar quality surgical instrument?

Yes. You are receiving a factory-new, professional-grade instrument from Sklar, a trusted name in medical instrumentation, designed specifically to meet the rigorous demands of ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery.
