Description

Sklar's Pratt Uterine Dilator is a double-ended OB/GYN instrument used for progressive dilation of the uterus. It is most frequently used during intrauterine procedures such as D&C and D&E. The size of these dilators is determined by the circumference of the tip and measured in French units, with one French unit equalling 1/3mm. Pratt dilators are available in several sizes. Each dilator has two different size tips. In comparison to other intrauterine dilators, Pratt dilators taper more gradually and are slightly lighter than Hegar dilators. They do not have a cuff to serve as a stop for depth of insertion such as featured on Hank dilators. The instrument is straight in the middle, slightly curved at each end, with a smooth, rounded tip. This product is a size 13/15 French dilator.

Frequently asked questions

Does this dilator offer a smoother insertion experience?

Yes. The Pratt design features a gradual taper that is more incremental than standard Hegar dilators, which helps provide a less traumatic dilation path during surgical procedures.

Is the stainless steel material durable for frequent use?

Absolutely. The instrument is manufactured from high-quality, medical-grade stainless steel, designed for repeated use and compatibility with standard sterilization protocols.

How does the French sizing system work for these tips?

The tips are calibrated to 13 Fr and 15 Fr. In this system, 1 French unit equals 1/3mm of circumference, allowing for precise, predictable dilation increments.

Does this tool contain any latex components?

No. This instrument is explicitly not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for patients with latex sensitivities.

Are these dilators compatible with my existing sterilization equipment?

Yes. Because they are crafted from durable, reusable stainless steel, they are designed to withstand standard clinical sterilization protocols used for reusable surgical instruments.

What is the benefit of the Pratt pattern compared to other styles?

The Pratt pattern is favored for its gradual taper design and lightweight construction. Unlike Hank dilators, it does not include a cuff or stop, offering a more flexible, non-obstructed path for insertion.

Is this instrument suitable for professional gynecological procedures?

Yes, this instrument is designed specifically for trained medical professionals performing intrauterine procedures such as D&C (Dilation and Curettage) or D&E (Dilation and Evacuation).

Are there specific government procurement standards met by this product?

Yes, the Sklar Pratt Uterine Dilator is TAA compliant, meeting the requirements necessary for various government and public sector procurement standards.

How is the quality of this instrument guaranteed long-term?

Sklar stands behind the durability and craftsmanship of this instrument with a lifetime warranty, reflecting their confidence in the surgical-grade construction.

Is the tip design safe for delicate procedures?

Yes, each end terminates in a smooth, rounded tip specifically engineered to facilitate gentle and secure insertion during surgical manipulation.
