Description

Sklar's Littauer Cutting Forceps are a non-ratcheted, plier handle instrument used primarily for cutting nail and bone. As nail nippers they are used for nail debridement. They may also be used on delicate bones found in the facial and nasal region, or small animal (mice) veterinary procedures. The short, sharp blades are able to produce enough force to cut through thick nail and small bone, but delicate enough not to cause trauma to surrounding tissue or organs. This is particularly helpful with nail debridement which should be completed in short, small sections to avoid damage to the hyponychium. This product is straight with smooth edges and an overall length of 4 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for tough nail debridement?

Yes, these forceps are specifically designed for the precise cutting of thick nails. The short, sharp blades are engineered to provide concentrated force, allowing for effective debridement of dense material while maintaining control.

Can these be used for delicate facial or nasal procedures?

Absolutely. Because of their specialized design, these 4-inch forceps are well-suited for manipulating and cutting delicate bone structures within facial or nasal regions, offering the precision required for such sensitive work.

Is the stainless steel construction durable for clinical use?

Yes, these instruments are manufactured from high-quality stainless steel. They are built to withstand the rigors of repeated sterilization and frequent reuse, making them a reliable, long-term asset in professional settings.

Does the ergonomic design allow for better control?

Yes, the non-ratcheted plier handle is designed to provide maximum control during manipulation. This ergonomic style allows the practitioner to apply precise amounts of pressure exactly where needed, minimizing the risk of slipping.

How are these forceps helpful for minimizing tissue trauma?

The precision of the short, sharp blades allows for debridement in very minute, controlled sections. This level of detail helps ensure that the cut is focused solely on the target area, preventing accidental trauma to surrounding sensitive soft tissue or the hyponychium.

Are these instruments safe for use in veterinary medicine?

Yes, their fine cutting capabilities and compact size make them highly applicable in specialized veterinary settings, particularly for procedures involving small animals like mice or other small specimens.

Do these forceps arrive sterile for immediate use?

No, these instruments are shipped non-sterile. They should be properly sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before their first use.

Is the material free from latex?

Yes, these Littauer Cutting Forceps are made without natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for practitioners or patients with latex sensitivities.

How reliable is the build quality of this instrument?

These forceps reflect high manufacturing standards, are fully TAA compliant, and are backed by a Lifetime warranty, providing assurance of their quality and longevity.

What is the best way to maintain these forceps?

Because they are constructed from high-grade stainless steel, they are designed for repeated sterilization. To maintain the sharpness and integrity of the blades, ensure they are cleaned and sterilized using standard autoclave or chemical sterilization methods suitable for stainless steel surgical instruments.
