Frequently asked questions

Does the single-sided bevel improve bone removal?

Yes. Unlike standard osteotomes, the single-sided bevel design is specifically engineered to shift the tool’s utility toward the more robust task of removing heavier bone tissue with greater efficiency.

Is this chisel suitable for repeated clinical sterilization?

Absolutely. It is constructed from high-quality, durable stainless steel designed to withstand the rigors of repeated sterilization processes and demanding clinical use.

What is the primary benefit of the curved blade?

The curved blade profile, measuring 6mm in width, is intentionally designed to provide surgeons with better access and leverage during complex orthopedic procedures.

Are there any natural rubber latex materials used?

No, the Sklar Hibbs Chisel is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safer option for environments where latex sensitivities are a concern.

How long is the chisel for handling and control?

The instrument features a total length of 8-3/4 inches, providing a balance of reach and control essential for surgical precision.

Is this tool compliant with TAA standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant, meeting the necessary regulatory standards for procurement in federal and clinical settings.

Is this a reusable surgical instrument?

Yes, it is designed as a reusable instrument intended for long-term service in professional clinical and surgical environments.

How does this compare to a standard Hibbs osteotome?

While it shares a similar lineage, the Hibbs Chisel is distinguished by its unique single-sided bevel. This makes it more effective for heavy bone removal compared to standard osteotomes, which are typically designed for more delicate precision cutting.

Is the handle designed for ergonomic performance?

Yes, the instrument features a long, multi-faceted handle that is engineered to provide a secure, ergonomic grip and excellent balance, ensuring steady control during surgical maneuvers.

Does this tool come ready for immediate surgical use?

The instrument is delivered non-sterile, so it must undergo appropriate clinical sterilization protocols before it can be used in a surgical setting.
