Description

Sklar Edge Tungsten Carbide Metzenbaum-Nelson Bariatric Scissors are long dissecting scissors most commonly used in Bariatric Surgeries such as gastric bypass, gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy. They are also used in Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, and Prostatectomy procedures to dissect and cut tissue. Metzenbaum-Nelson scissors tend to be longer than standard Metzenbaum scissors which make them ideal for use in thoracic procedures as well. These scissors are not recommended for cutting sutures or drains. Sklar Edge TC Scissors provide an exceptionally durable and hard cutting edge. These scissors are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than standard scissors. Sklar permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the blades of the scissors which maximizes control and precision. Sklar Edge scissors can be identified by two gold coated finger rings. This product has curved, smooth blades with blunt tips, and an overall length of 11 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Is this made with high-quality, durable materials?

Yes, these scissors are crafted from Sklar Premium Grade stainless steel. This high-quality construction ensures professional-grade longevity and reliability in demanding surgical environments.

Does the Tungsten Carbide edge ensure long-term sharpness?

Absolutely. The blades feature permanently bonded Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts. This advanced material is specifically engineered to:

  • Maximize blade durability.
  • Retain a precise cutting edge significantly longer than standard stainless steel scissors.
Are these scissors suitable for deep-cavity surgical procedures?

Yes. With an 11-inch extended length, these scissors are optimized for deep-tissue access. They are ideal for complex surgical disciplines, including:

  • Bariatric surgeries (e.g., gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy).
  • Thoracic procedures.
  • Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, and Prostatectomy.
How does the blade design aid in tissue dissection?

These scissors feature curved, smooth blades with blunt/blunt (B/B) tips. This specific geometry is designed for the careful, precise separation of soft tissue, ensuring enhanced control during delicate dissections.

Are these instruments safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes. The Sklar Edge Metzenbaum-Nelson scissors are 100% free of natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for use in sterile operating environments.

Do these scissors support efficient surgical instrument tracking?

Yes, they are CensiTrac marked. This integration allows for enhanced traceability and streamlined inventory management within your facility’s surgical instrument processing system.

Are the handles designed for comfort and identification?

Yes, the scissors feature distinctive gold-coated finger rings. These are a signature of the Sklar Edge line, designed to provide a comfortable, ergonomic grip while offering easy visual identification of the instrument grade.

Do these surgical instruments meet TAA compliance standards?

Yes, these instruments are fully TAA compliant, meeting the necessary regulatory standards required for procurement in many government and institutional healthcare facilities.

Are these scissors effective for cutting heavy sutures?

While these are professional-grade surgical instruments, they are specifically indicated for tissue dissection. They are not recommended for cutting heavy materials like sutures or drains, as this can compromise the precise Tungsten Carbide edge.

How should these scissors be prepared before use?

These instruments are supplied non-sterile. Because they are a reusable surgical tool, they must undergo standard hospital-approved cleaning, sterilization, and reprocessing procedures before their initial use and between surgical procedures.
