Description

Sklar Edge TC Supercut Sklarhone Metzenbaum-Nelson Bariatric Scissors are long dissecting scissors most commonly used in Bariatric Surgeries such as gastric bypass, gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy. They are also used in Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, and Prostatectomy procedures to dissect and cut tissue. Metzenbaum-Nelson scissors tend to be longer than standard Metzenbaum scissors which make them ideal for use in thoracic procedures as well. These scissors are not recommended for cutting sutures or drains. Sklar Edge TC Supercut Sklarhone scissors provide effortless, precise cutting. They feature one knife-like razor edge and one micro-serrated edge along with the strength and durability of tungsten carbide. They can be used to cut both delicate and heavy tissue with minimal tearing or pulling. Sklar permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the blades of the scissors which maximizes control and precision. These scissors are also designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than standard scissors. This instrument can be identified by its handle of one black finger ring and one gold finger ring. This product is curved, has one razor edge blade, one micro-serrated edge blade, blunt tips, and an overall length of 10 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Does this instrument maintain its sharpness during extended use?

Yes, it uses Super-Cut TC Technology. The tungsten carbide inserts are permanently bonded to the blades, which allows for significantly extended sharpness retention compared to standard stainless steel instruments.

Does it handle both delicate and heavy tissues effectively?

Absolutely. The Dual Edge Configuration features one knife-like razor edge and one micro-serrated edge. This combination allows for a clean, precise cut on both delicate and dense tissue surfaces, helping to minimize trauma by reducing tearing or pulling during dissection.

Is this suitable for complex bariatric and major procedures?

Yes, these scissors are specifically optimized for deep tissue access. They are ideal for major surgical procedures, including:

  • Bariatric surgery (gastric bypass, banding, sleeve gastrectomy)
  • Nephrectomy
  • Cystectomy
  • Prostatectomy
  • Thoracic procedures
Why do the handle rings have different colors?

The unique color-coding—one black finger ring and one gold finger ring—provides for immediate visual identification. This helps surgical staff quickly orient the instrument, ensuring the correct blade configuration is utilized during intense surgical procedures.

Is this instrument safe for latex-sensitive environments?

Yes, the instrument is certified latex-free. It is not manufactured with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for surgical suites where latex sensitivity is a concern.

Do the blunt tips aid in safe tissue dissection?

Yes, the Blunt/Blunt (B/B) tip configuration is designed to facilitate safe dissection in deep tissue areas. This design helps reduce the risk of accidental punctures or unintentional tissue trauma while providing the stability needed for complex surgical tasks.

Is this product TAA compliant for facility standards?

Yes, this surgical instrument is TAA compliant. It meets the necessary manufacturing standards required for procurement in many professional surgical facilities.

Can these high-grade scissors be sterilized and reused?

Yes, these are reusable surgical instruments. They are constructed from high-quality stainless steel and tungsten carbide, allowing them to withstand standard surgical cleaning and sterilization protocols for long-term use.

Are these appropriate for cutting surgical sutures or drains?

No, these scissors are specifically engineered for precision tissue dissection. They should not be used to cut sutures or drains, as doing so can damage the specialized tungsten carbide edges and degrade the instrument’s performance.

Does the 10-inch length provide sufficient deep-tissue access?

The 10-inch total length is specifically designed for procedures where standard-length instruments fall short. This extended reach makes them an essential tool for deep tissue access in bariatric and thoracic surgical sites.
