Description

Sklar Edge TC Supercut Sklarhone Metzenbaum scissors are used for dissecting and cutting tissue only. They are not recommended for cutting sutures or drains. They provide effortless, precise cutting. These scissors feature one knife-like razor edge and one micro-serrated edge along with the strength and durability of tungsten carbide. They can be used to cut both delicate and heavy tissue with minimal tearing or pulling. Sklar permanently bonds tungsten carbide inserts to the blades of the scissors which maximizes control and precision. These scissors are also designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than standard scissors. This instrument can be identified by its handle of one black finger ring and one gold finger ring. This product is curved, has one razor edge blade, one micro-serrated edge blade, blunt tips, and an overall length of 7 inches.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors designed for heavy-duty cutting?

These scissors are specifically engineered for soft tissue dissection only. They are not intended for cutting sutures, drains, or other rigid materials. Using them solely for their designed purpose ensures the longevity of the high-precision cutting edges.

What makes the cutting edge unique on this model?

These scissors feature a hybrid cutting system that maximizes performance:

  • One razor-sharp edge: Provides clean, knife-like slicing.
  • One micro-serrated edge: Grips the tissue to prevent slipping and minimize tearing.

This combination allows for effortless cutting across varying tissue densities.

Why are the finger rings colored differently?

The distinctive one gold and one black finger ring design serves as a functional visual indicator in a busy operating environment. It allows staff to instantly identify these specialized ‘Supercut’ instruments at a glance, distinguishing them from standard surgical scissors.

How do the tungsten carbide inserts improve longevity?

The tungsten carbide (TC) inserts are permanently bonded to the stainless steel blades. This material is significantly harder than standard surgical steel, which allows the instrument to maintain a ‘factory-sharp’ edge for a much longer period, reducing the need for frequent sharpening.

Is this instrument suitable for professional surgical use?

Yes, this is classified under the Sklar Premium Grade standard. It is a professional-grade, reusable instrument designed specifically for clinical and surgical environments where high precision and consistent performance are required.

What does the 'Blunt/Blunt' tip configuration mean for my work?

The Blunt/Blunt (B/B) tip design is ideal for blunt dissection and careful separation of tissue layers. It is safer than sharp-tipped scissors, as it reduces the risk of accidental puncture or unintended injury during deep-tissue procedures.

Is the material latex-free?

Yes, this instrument is constructed from stainless steel and tungsten carbide and is not made with natural rubber latex, making it safe for use in environments where latex allergies are a concern.

Does this product require special care due to the TC inserts?

While intended for standard professional sterilization and reuse, the precision-engineered nature of these scissors means they should be handled with care. As with all high-grade surgical instruments, they should be cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s standard protocols for reusable surgical tools.

Is the curvature helpful for specific procedures?

The curved-on-flat design is essential for surgical maneuvers that require navigating around anatomical structures. The curve allows the surgeon to access deeper tissue planes or reach around curvatures within the body cavity while maintaining proper leverage and visibility.

How does the TAA compliance benefit the facility?

Being TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant ensures that these instruments meet strict manufacturing and origin requirements, making them eligible for purchase by government entities, federal facilities, and institutions that adhere to specific procurement regulations.
