Description

Sklar Desmarres Chalazion Forceps are ophthalmologic thumb forceps used to evert the eyelid and expose chalazion for drainage and removal. The instrument has two sideways oval tips. One is solid and the other is fenestrated. The chalazion on the eyelid is isolated between the two tips and the forceps are tightened by an attached screw, which pushes the chalazion upwards so a procedure can be completed. The size and consistency of the chalazion are primary factors when choosing which chalazion forceps to use. Larger chalazion, as well as those with hard matter, will require larger incisions. Therefore, forceps with larger tips may be more useful. Similarly, smaller chalazion, or those determined to contain only fluid, may be excised with smaller incisions and the use of forceps with a smaller diameter. This product is straight with smooth tips and a length of 3-1/2 inches. The tips of this product are considered medium and are approximately 14mm x 23mm.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps made of high-grade surgical material?

Yes, these are crafted from durable, high-grade stainless steel. This material choice ensures the instrument is built to last, maintains its integrity through repeated sterilization processes, and is fully reusable for clinical environments.

Is this forceps model suitable for standard eyelid procedures?

Absolutely. The medium-sized tips (14mm x 23mm) are specifically designed for standard chalazion procedures. This size is generally recommended for isolating typical lesions effectively during ophthalmic surgeries.

Can these forceps be safely used on latex-sensitive patients?

Yes. The instrument is manufactured to be completely free of natural rubber latex, ensuring it meets safety standards for patients with latex sensitivities or allergies.

Do these forceps help stabilize the chalazion securely?

Yes, they feature a specialized design with one solid tip and one fenestrated (perforated) tip. This allows surgeons to:

  • Securely isolate the chalazion between the tips.
  • Use the attached screw mechanism to push the tissue upward, providing precise manipulation and stable access.
Are these instruments compliant with strict institutional standards?

Yes, these Sklar forceps are TAA compliant. This ensures they meet important institutional procurement standards for medical instrumentation in the United States.

Is the construction quality reliable for long-term practice?

The craftsmanship is highly reliable. Sklar backs these forceps with a comprehensive lifetime warranty, demonstrating their high confidence in the quality, durability, and engineering of the instrument.

What is the best way to handle the tips?

These forceps feature smooth working edges, which are designed for careful manipulation of delicate eyelid tissue. As with all precision ophthalmic tools, handle them with care to preserve the alignment of the oval tips.

Should I prepare these forceps before the first use?

Yes, please note that the product is supplied non-sterile. You should follow your facility’s standard protocols for cleaning and sterilization of surgical-grade stainless steel instruments before using them in any procedure.

Are these forceps designed for professional ophthalmic precision?

Definitely. These are precision-engineered surgical tools specifically built for ophthalmologists. They offer the necessary control for everting the eyelid and managing lesions effectively.

Is the design specialized for easy eyelid eversion?

Yes. This Desmarres model is specifically designed to evert the eyelid with ease. Its straight profile and specialized tip configuration work together to expose the chalazion for clear, unobstructed drainage or removal.
