Description

Sklar Desmarres Chalazion Forceps are ophthalmologic thumb forceps used to evert the eyelid and expose chalazion for drainage and removal. The instrument has two sideways oval tips. One is solid and the other is fenestrated. The chalazion on the eyelid is isolated between the two tips and the forceps are tightened by an attached screw, which pushes the chalazion upwards so a procedure can be completed. The size and consistency of the chalazion are primary factors when choosing which chalazion forceps to use. Larger chalazion, as well as those with hard matter, will require larger incisions. Therefore, forceps with larger tips may be more useful. Similarly, smaller chalazion, or those determined to contain only fluid, may be excised with smaller incisions and the use of forceps with a smaller diameter. This product is straight with smooth tips and a length of 3-1/2 inches. The tips of this product are considered large and are approximately 19mm x 32mm.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for large or dense chalazia?

Yes, these forceps feature large 19mm x 32mm tips, which are specifically recommended for managing larger chalazia or lesions containing denser material that require a more robust, controlled clamping during the procedure.

Is the screw mechanism easy to adjust during procedures?

The integrated mechanical screw system is designed for precision. It allows the surgeon to securely tighten the instrument around the chalazion, effectively isolating it and pushing it upward to ensure optimal access for drainage or excision.

Can these instruments withstand repeated sterilization cycles?

Absolutely. These forceps are constructed from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring the durability required for repeated sterilization and long-term reuse in a surgical environment.

Are these forceps made with any natural rubber latex?

No, this product is not manufactured with natural rubber latex, making it a suitable choice for environments or patients with latex sensitivities.

Are these ophthalmologic instruments TAA compliant?

Yes, this Sklar Desmarres Chalazion Forcep is fully TAA compliant, meeting the regulatory requirements often needed for medical procurement.

What is the primary function of the opposing tip design?

The forceps utilize a dual-tip configuration—one solid oval tip and one fenestrated oval tip. This combination is essential for securely grabbing and everting the eyelid, which isolates the chalazion and exposes it for the surgical site.

Do these forceps come with a long-term quality guarantee?

Yes, this instrument is backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the manufacturer’s confidence in the material quality and precision engineering of the product.

What is the total length of this specific model?

This model of the Sklar Desmarres Chalazion Forceps measures 3-1/2 inches in length, providing a compact yet effective size for precise ophthalmic work.

How should I prepare this instrument before first use?

The instrument is supplied non-sterile. Please ensure that it undergoes your facility’s standard cleaning and sterilization protocols for surgical stainless steel instruments before its first use.

Is the handle designed for better tactile control?

Yes, the handle features finely detailed knurling along the grip area. This texture is specifically designed to provide enhanced tactile control and a secure grip for the surgeon during delicate procedures.
