Description

Sklar's Schroeder-Braun tenaculum forceps are a ratcheted, finger ring instrument commonly used in OB/GYN procedures involving manipulation of the cervix or uterus, most commonly D&C, and vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy. They are also used to grasp, hold, and move vessels and arteries during surgical procedures. The tips of the Schroeder-Braun tenaculum forceps have two flattened prong tips that angle inward at 90 degrees. The prongs overlap, providing a strong hold on the tissue, but are also traumatic to tissue. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments have an insulated coating to prevent radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument - thereby reducing burning of non-targeted tissues. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue coating provide genuine electrosurgical protection?

Yes. The specialized Sklar Blue insulated coating acts as a reliable barrier against radio frequency currents. This design is specifically engineered to prevent accidental thermal injury to healthy, non-targeted tissues during electrosurgical procedures.

Is the gripping mechanism secure for delicate tissue procedures?

These forceps feature Pozzi-style 1x1 sharp prong tips that angle inward at 90 degrees. This specific configuration is designed to provide a strong, reliable hold during cervical or uterine procedures.

Can this instrument be tracked within a busy facility?

Absolutely. This model is CensiTrac marked, allowing for seamless asset tracking and efficient instrument management within surgical facilities.

Are these forceps durable enough for repeated clinical use?

Yes, they are built for longevity. Constructed from high-quality stainless steel, these forceps are designed to be fully reusable and are compatible with both autoclave and ultrasonic cleaning protocols.

Is this instrument safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, this product is 100% latex-free, making it a safe choice for use in diverse surgical environments where latex sensitivity is a concern.

What kind of procedures are these forceps best suited for?

These forceps are optimized for OB/GYN procedures that require electrosurgical intervention. Common applications include:

  • Dilation and curettage (D&C)
  • Vaginal or abdominal hysterectomies
  • General manipulation of vessels, arteries, or uterine tissue.
Is the design ergonomic for extended surgical use?

The instrument features a classic, ergonomic design with large, circular finger rings and a smooth, reliable ratchet mechanism. This allows for a controlled, secure grip that can be locked in place during demanding surgical tasks.

Is this product compliant with federal procurement standards?

Yes, the Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Schroeder Tenaculum Forceps are TAA compliant.

How long is the instrument overall?

This model features a standard 10-inch length, providing the necessary reach and leverage for standard gynecological and surgical positioning.

Does the instrument require any special handling after surgery?

Because the instrument is fully autoclavable, it follows standard surgical instrument decontamination procedures. Always ensure the insulated blue coating is inspected during routine maintenance to ensure the protective barrier remains intact for safe electrosurgical use.
