Description

The Sklar Blue Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a slender sized speculum with 4" x 5/8" blades. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does the coating ensure safety during electrosurgery?

Yes. This instrument features a specialized insulated Sklar Blue coating that is critical for safety. It effectively prevents the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents through the body of the device, which significantly reduces the risk of unintended burning of non-targeted tissue during procedures like LEEP.

Is this speculum suitable for narrow anatomies?

Yes, this model features a Pederson blade style, which is naturally narrower than the Graves style. With its slender 4” x 5/8” blade dimensions, it is specifically engineered to provide comfort and access for specific patient anatomies.

Can the smoke evacuation tube be removed for cleaning?

No, this specific model features a permanent smoke evacuation tube integrated directly into the design. Because it is a permanent fixture, the entire unit—including the tube—is fully compatible with standard autoclave and ultrasonic cleaning processes.

How do I maintain the instrument after use?

This device is built for professional-grade, repeatable use and is fully autoclavable. You can maintain it using:

  • Steam sterilization: Compliant with ANSI/AAMI ST79 validation.
  • Ultrasonic cleaning: Compatible for thorough reprocessing between procedures.
Is the material safe for patients with latex sensitivities?

Absolutely. This speculum is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex allergies or sensitivities.

Is this instrument compliant with clinical safety standards?

Yes. It adheres to rigorous medical and biological benchmarks, including:

  • ISO 10993: Compliance for biological safety (cytotoxicity and sensitization).
  • ANSI/AAMI ST79: Validation for gravity cycle and pre-vacuum steam sterilization.
What is the benefit of the blue insulated finish?

The blue coating serves two primary purposes:

  1. Functional Safety: It provides a non-conductive barrier to prevent RF current transmission.
  2. Visual Identification: The distinct color acts as an immediate visual indicator that the instrument is specifically configured for electrosurgical compatibility.
Is the construction durable enough for daily clinical use?

Yes. It is manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring long-term durability and structural reliability even with frequent autoclaving and demanding clinical environments.

Does the adjustment mechanism provide precise control?

Yes, it utilizes a reliable external lever and screw mechanism. This allows the user to open the duckbill blades smoothly and lock them into position to maintain exposure throughout the procedure.

Does the integrated tube effectively improve procedural visibility?

Yes, the integrated permanent smoke evacuation tube is designed to clear smoke from the field of view during electrosurgical procedures. This helps enhance visibility and procedural safety for the practitioner.
