Description

The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a small sized speculum with 3" X 3/4" blades. It has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

How does the insulated coating enhance patient safety during procedures?

The speculum features a specialized, non-conductive Sklar Blue insulated coating. This advanced design is critical for electrosurgical procedures because it:

  • Safely isolates radio frequency (RF) currents.
  • Actively prevents unintended transmission of electrical current.
  • Significantly reduces the risk of accidental burning of adjacent, non-targeted tissues.
What are the clinical benefits of the Graves design for this speculum?

The Graves pattern is specifically chosen for its enhanced visualization capabilities. Compared to the narrower Pederson type, this speculum features wider blades (3” X 3/4”), which provide a broader, more open view of the operative field, making it an excellent choice for detailed gynecological examinations and surgical procedures.

Does this speculum easily integrate with smoke evacuation systems?

Yes, it is designed for seamless integration. This model is equipped with an integrated smoke evacuation loop. This allows you to securely hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing, ensuring your operative field remains clear of obstruction during electrosurgical procedures.

Can this speculum withstand repeated sterilization processes?

Absolutely. This instrument is built for robust clinical use and meets the rigorous ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards. It is:

  • Fully autoclavable, compatible with both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam.
  • Compatible with ultrasonic cleaning methods for thorough, effective reprocessing.
Does this instrument comply with necessary safety and biocompatibility standards?

Yes, quality and safety are core to its design. The instrument meets several key regulatory benchmarks, including:

  • ISO 10993 standards for biocompatibility.
  • Rigorous biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity and sensitization.
  • TAA compliance.
Is this device safe for patients with latex sensitivities?

Yes, this speculum is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safer and more inclusive choice for your patient population.

Is this speculum well-suited for delicate LEEP procedures?

It is specifically engineered for gynecological surgical suites, particularly for LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure). The combination of the insulated construction, smoke evacuation capability, and the precise Graves design makes it a specialized tool for maintaining safety and visibility during these procedures.

How durable is the construction for long-term clinical utility?

Designed for a long lifecycle in busy surgical environments, the instrument is crafted from high-quality stainless steel. This durable material, paired with the specialized insulation coating, ensures it remains a reliable, reusable tool that stands up to the demands of daily clinical use.

Are there specific requirements for cleaning and maintenance?

The instrument is designed for efficiency in clinical settings. To maintain its integrity:

  • It is fully ultrasonic cleaning compatible.
  • It is validated for steam sterilization following ANSI/AAMI ST79 guidelines.
Always follow your facility’s standard protocol for reprocessing medical-grade stainless steel surgical instruments.
Does the mechanical design allow for easy, precise adjustment?

Yes, the speculum utilizes a user-friendly external lever and screw mechanism. This system allows for:

  • Smooth insertion of the double blades in a closed position.
  • Precise, controlled opening of the blades once positioned, ensuring stability throughout the examination.
