Description

The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Wide-View Vaginal Speculum is used for laser gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a standard double blade duckbill speculum that features a wide proximal opening for instrumentation. It is inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a medium sized speculum with 4" X 1-1/4" blades. It has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

How does the electrosurgical coating enhance patient safety?

The instrument features a specialized, non-conductive insulated coating over high-quality stainless steel. This critical layer is engineered to prevent the transmission of radio frequency currents to unintended areas, significantly reducing the risk of burning non-targeted tissue during electrosurgical procedures like LEEP.

Is this speculum designed for high-volume clinical use?

Yes, this instrument is designed for durability and longevity. It is fully autoclavable and ultrasonically cleanable, making it a robust, reusable solution built for the demands of busy gynecological practices.

What is the benefit of the 'Wide-View' Graves pattern?

The Graves pattern provides a wider blade profile (4” x 1-1/4”) and a generous proximal opening compared to thinner models like the Pederson style. This design optimizes visualization and offers more room for maneuverability during instrumentation.

Can smoke evacuation tubing be used with this device?

Absolutely. This model is specifically equipped with an integrated loop attachment designed to securely hold and guide disposable smoke evacuation tubing, ensuring a cleaner and more efficient work environment during laser procedures.

Are the materials safe for patient contact?

Yes. The instrument is manufactured to strict regulatory standards, including ISO 10993 biological testing for cytotoxicity and sensitization. Additionally, it is not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for latex-sensitive patients.

Is this speculum compatible with standard steam sterilization?

Yes, it is validated for rigorous sterilization protocols. It complies with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards for pre-vacuum and gravity cycle steam sterilization, ensuring it can be reliably processed between patient uses.

Is this instrument considered a long-term investment?

Yes, Sklar Blue instruments are built for quality and longevity. This speculum is backed by a Lifetime warranty, reflecting the durability of its stainless steel construction and precision engineering.

Is the speculum TAA compliant for government or federal use?

Yes, this product is TAA compliant, meeting the necessary requirements for procurement by federal and government medical facilities.

How does the opening mechanism operate?

The speculum utilizes a classic, reliable external lever and screw mechanism. This design allows for smooth, controlled adjustment of the duckbill blades, providing practitioners with precise control over the opening width during examinations or procedures.

Is this speculum suitable for LEEP procedures?

Yes, it is specifically engineered for gynecological procedures requiring electrosurgical application, such as LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure), where its insulated coating and smoke evacuation loop are essential features.
