Description

The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is used for electrosurgical gynecological procedures, such as LEEP. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a large sized speculum with 4-1/2" X 1-3/8" blades. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Is the specialized coating effective for patient safety?

Yes. The instrument features a high-quality insulated coating specifically designed to prevent radio frequency current transmission. This helps to significantly reduce the risk of unintended thermal injury to surrounding, non-targeted tissue during electrosurgical procedures.

Is this model equipped with reliable smoke evacuation?

Yes, this model includes a built-in permanent smoke evacuation tube. It is engineered specifically to help maintain a clear field of vision during procedures like LEEP.

Is the instrument easy to sterilize between uses?

Yes. The speculum is designed for rigorous reprocessing and is:

  • Fully autoclavable for standard sterilization.
  • Compatible with ultrasonic cleaning protocols.
  • Compliant with ANSI/AAMI ST79 steam sterilization validation standards.
Why choose a Graves-style speculum over a Pederson?

The Graves design features wider blades compared to the Pederson style. This offers practitioners:

  • Enhanced visibility during the procedure.
  • Greater flexibility in selecting the right instrument size based on individual patient anatomy.
Does the construction meet biocompatibility standards?

Yes. This instrument fully complies with ISO 10993 requirements, which cover critical biological safety factors like cytotoxicity and sensitization.

Is this speculum ideal for LEEP procedures?

Absolutely. It is specifically engineered for electrosurgical gynecological applications, such as the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP), where protecting surrounding tissue from RF currents is paramount.

Is the speculum safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, the device is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

Is the adjustment mechanism designed for precise control?

Yes, the instrument utilizes a reliable external lever and screw system. This mechanism allows for precise, secure opening and adjustment of the blades during use.

Is the high-quality coating built for longevity?

The Sklar Blue instruments are designed for durability and repeated use. The specialized insulation layer is manufactured to maintain its integrity through standard hospital cleaning and sterilization cycles.

Can you confirm the dimensions of the large size?

This specific large model features a blade size of 4-1/2 inches by 1-3/8 inches, providing the standard, generous dimensions expected of a large Graves-style speculum.
