Description

Sklar Blue Dressing Forceps are thumb forceps used for holding dressing materials such as cotton and gauze during surgical procedures, changing dressings, or packing wounds during electrosurgical procedures. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. Sklar Blue electrosurgical coatings are guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects.

Frequently asked questions

How do these forceps improve patient safety during electrosurgery?

These forceps feature a specialized non-conductive Sklar Blue coating. This protective layer is engineered to minimize the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents, which helps prevent unintended thermal injury to non-targeted tissue during electrosurgical procedures.

Are these forceps suitable for repeated clinical use?

Yes, they are designed for longevity and frequent professional use. Constructed from high-quality stainless steel, they are:

  • Fully autoclavable for standard steam sterilization.
  • Ultrasonically cleanable for thorough reprocessing.
  • Built to withstand repeated sterilization cycles while maintaining performance.
Do the jaws provide a secure grip on dressing materials?

Absolutely. The forceps are designed with serrated working edges. This texturing is specifically crafted to provide a secure, non-slip grasp on materials like cotton, gauze, and other dressing supplies, even when working in precise surgical environments.

Does this product meet recognized medical compliance standards?

Yes, these forceps adhere to rigorous industry standards to ensure quality and safety:

  • Biological Compliance: Tested for cytotoxicity and sensitization according to ISO 10993 standards.
  • Sterilization Compliance: Meets ANSI/AAMI ST79 requirements for both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization.
  • Regulatory: TAA compliant.
Is the material safe for patients with sensitivities?

Yes, the product is latex-free and is not manufactured with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

What kind of quality guarantee comes with these forceps?

The instrument is backed by a Lifetime Warranty covering manufacturing defects. Additionally, the specialized electrosurgical coating is specifically guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects, reflecting the brand’s confidence in the product’s durability.

Are these forceps long enough for deep tissue work?

The forceps measure 8 inches in length, offering a slender, elongated profile. This length provides the necessary reach and stability required for wound packing or dressing changes, especially in deeper surgical sites.

How should I handle the care and maintenance of the coating?

To ensure the longevity of the protective blue coating, follow standard medical sterilization protocols. The coating is designed to be durable for clinical reuse, though it is standard practice to inspect the insulation integrity periodically as part of your facility’s routine instrument maintenance program.

Is this instrument intended for sterile or non-sterile delivery?

The forceps are delivered non-sterile. They are designed to be processed through your facility’s standard sterilization protocols (such as steam autoclaving) prior to their first use and between subsequent procedures.

Are these suitable for general clinic or operating room use?

Yes, these are professional-grade instruments suitable for a variety of surgical settings, including:

  • Operating rooms
  • Surgical clinics
  • Sterile processing departments

They are specifically optimized for use near active electrosurgical sites where precision and insulation are critical.
