Description

Sklar Blue Dressing Forceps are thumb forceps used for holding dressing materials such as cotton and gauze during surgical procedures, changing dressings, or packing wounds during electrosurgical procedures. Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue. Sklar Blue instruments are fully autoclavable and may also be cleaned ultrasonically. All Sklar Blue coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. Sklar Blue electrosurgical coatings are guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects. This product is straight with serrated tips and a length of 12 inches.

Frequently asked questions

How does the coating enhance patient safety?

The distinct blue coating is a specialized, non-conductive insulation layer. It is engineered to block the transmission of radio frequency (RF) currents, which significantly minimizes the risk of unintended thermal injury to non-targeted tissue during electrosurgical procedures.

Is this instrument suitable for frequent, long-term use?

Yes, these forceps are designed for longevity. They are classified as reusable and constructed from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring they withstand repeated clinical use while maintaining their integrity.

Can these forceps withstand rigorous sterilization protocols?

Absolutely. These instruments are fully compatible with standard clinical hygiene practices, including:

  • Autoclaving: Fully resistant to steam sterilization.
  • Ultrasonic Cleaning: Suitable for deep cleaning methods.
  • Compliance: Validated for Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle steam sterilization per ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards.
Does the design provide a secure grip on dressings?

Yes, the forceps are equipped with serrated tips specifically engineered to hold dressing materials, such as cotton and gauze, firmly and securely, ensuring precision during surgical applications.

Are these forceps compatible with standard surgical environments?

These instruments are designed for professional operating rooms and clinical settings where electrosurgical tools are required. They comply with strict biological testing requirements, including ISO 10993 for cytotoxicity and sensitization.

What is the primary benefit of the blue coating?

Beyond its safety function as an electrical insulator, the vibrant blue coating serves as an effective visual identifier. It allows surgical staff to quickly distinguish these specialized electrosurgical instruments from standard, non-insulated stainless steel tools on a sterile field.

Is the material free from latex?

Yes, this product is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safer option for clinical environments where latex sensitivity is a concern.

Are these instruments TAA compliant?

Yes, these Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Dressing Forceps are fully TAA (Trade Agreements Act) compliant.

How should I handle the instrument's insulation coating?

To ensure the longevity of the protective layer, follow standard cleaning and sterilization procedures as recommended for surgical-grade stainless steel. While the insulation is robust, please note that the coating itself is guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects, reflecting its durability in standard clinical use.

Is this instrument designed for specific surgical tasks?

These forceps are purpose-built for manipulating dressing materials during procedures. Their 12-inch length and straight configuration make them ideal for tasks like:

  • Wound packing.
  • Secure handling of cotton or gauze.
  • Electrosurgical dressing changes.
