Description

The Sklar Blue Collin Vaginal Speculum is a gynecological instrument used for performing pelvic examinations, Pap Smears, and examining the cervix. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. Unlike many other vaginal specula, there is no handle with the Collin device and the blades open laterally/horizontally versus vertically. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. This product features a loop for holding disposable tubing for smoke evacuation (not shown.) Sklar Blue electrosurgical instruments feature high quality stainless steel with an insulated coating. This safe coating prevents radio frequency currents from being transmitted through the instrument which reduces the burning of non-targeted tissue.

Frequently asked questions

Does the insulation provide reliable protection during electrosurgery?

Yes. This instrument is engineered with a specialized non-conductive blue coating that covers the length of the blades. This insulation acts as a critical safety barrier to prevent radio frequency currents from transmitting to non-targeted tissue, significantly reducing the risk of accidental burns.

How does the lateral-opening mechanism benefit the practitioner?

Unlike traditional vertical-opening models, the Collin design uses an external lever and screw mechanism to open the blades laterally. This provides specialized access and a distinct view for complex gynecological assessments, Pap smears, and pelvic examinations.

Is this device compatible with standard smoke evacuation systems?

Yes, it is designed for efficiency in the operating room. The speculum features an integrated loop specifically engineered to hold disposable smoke evacuation tubing securely, allowing for a streamlined and smoke-free procedure.

Is the material durable enough for clinical use?

Absolutely. It is manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring robust performance in demanding clinical environments. Because it is built to the rigorous standards of Sklar OR-grade instruments, it is designed for long-term, reliable use.

Does the design contain any natural rubber latex?

No, the Sklar Blue Electrosurgical Collin Vaginal Speculum is 100% latex-free, making it a safe choice for patients and practitioners with latex sensitivities.

Can this instrument be reused between procedures?

Yes, this is a reusable instrument. It is designed to withstand the cleaning and sterilization protocols required for professional gynecological settings, unlike single-use disposable alternatives.

Does this meet government and institutional procurement standards?

Yes, this instrument is TAA compliant (Trade Agreements Act), meaning it meets the necessary standards for government and institutional procurement requirements.

How does the blue coating assist the clinician?

The vibrant blue coating serves as a high-contrast visual cue, allowing clinicians to immediately identify the instrument’s non-conductive properties at a glance during busy clinical procedures.

Is this speculum intended for professional medical settings?

Yes, this is a professional-grade instrument tailored for gynecologists and medical practitioners. It is built for use in hospitals, specialized clinics, and surgical environments where precision and electrosurgical safety are paramount.

What kind of quality assurance does the manufacturer provide?

Sklar stands behind the quality of their instrumentation with a lifetime warranty, providing peace of mind that the device is built to maintain its functionality and safety standards over years of clinical service.
