Description

The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for laser gynecological procedures. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a small speculum with 3" X 1/2" blades. It does not have a smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

How effectively does the black coating minimize laser reflection?

The speculum features a specialized non-reflective black polymer coating. This is engineered to reduce laser reflection to less than one-tenth of one percent (< 0.1%), significantly enhancing safety for both the patient and surgical staff during laser procedures.

Is the Pederson design well-suited for patient comfort?

Yes, the Pederson blade design is specifically chosen for patient comfort. It features a narrower double-blade duckbill configuration compared to the Graves Speculum, making it ideal for patients requiring a more precise, less invasive anatomical fit.

What is the instrument made of underneath the coating?

The device is crafted with a high-quality stainless steel base. For added durability and adhesion, the instrument undergoes a sandblasting process before the non-reflective polymer coating is applied, ensuring it holds up well under repeated, long-term use.

Does this instrument meet biological safety standards?

Absolutely. This speculum fully complies with ISO 10993 requirements, covering critical areas like cytotoxicity and sensitization. You can be confident in the biological safety of the materials used in this instrument.

How should this instrument be sterilized?

This device is compatible with standard steam sterilization protocols. It is validated for ANSI/AAMI ST79 steam sterilization, including both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity cycles, making it suitable for routine medical reprocessing.

What are the specific measurements for this size?

This specific variant is designed for targeted use with compact dimensions:

  • Blade Length: 3 inches
  • Blade Width: 1/2 inch
Does this model include any smoke evacuation ports?

No, this particular configuration does not include a permanent smoke evacuation tube or loop connections. It is a streamlined model designed specifically for cases where external smoke management is not required.

Is this device safe for latex-sensitive patients?

Yes, this product is 100% latex-free. It is not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring it is a safe choice for patients with sensitivities or allergies to latex materials.

How is the speculum adjusted during a procedure?

The speculum is designed for intuitive control. It is inserted with the blades closed, then expanded using a sturdy, manual external lever and screw mechanism, which allows for fine-tuned, secure positioning.

Is this a reusable or single-use instrument?

This is a reusable instrument. Built to high manufacturing standards, it is engineered for repeated clinical use, offering significant long-term value compared to disposable alternatives.
