Description

The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for laser gynecological procedures. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a medium speculum with 4" x 7/8" blades. It has a loop to hold and direct disposable smoke evacuation tubing.

Frequently asked questions

How does the coating enhance laser safety?

This speculum features a specialized, non-reflective black polymer coating applied over sandblasted stainless steel. This construction reduces laser reflection to less than 0.1%, significantly minimizing the risk of accidental laser exposure to surrounding tissue during gynecological procedures.

Why choose the Pederson design?

The Pederson design is preferred for its narrower blade profile compared to the wider Graves style. This design choice allows practitioners to select the most appropriate instrument based on patient anatomy, often providing a more comfortable experience.

Is this instrument built for durability?

Yes, this is a professional-grade instrument constructed from high-quality stainless steel. It is designed to be fully reusable, ensuring long-term durability and reliability in clinical settings.

How is smoke evacuation managed?

The speculum is equipped with an integrated loop specifically designed to hold and secure disposable smoke evacuation tubing. This allows you to easily direct the tubing away from the procedure site, maintaining a clear field of view.

Does it meet strict sterilization standards?

Absolutely. The instrument is validated for steam sterilization in compliance with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards, supporting both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle sterilization methods.

Is it safe for patients with sensitivities?

Yes. This product is manufactured without natural rubber latex and complies with rigorous biological testing requirements, including ISO 10993 standards for cytotoxicity and sensitization.

Is it compliant with government procurement standards?

Yes, the Sklar Black Laser Pederson Vaginal Speculum is TAA compliant, making it a suitable choice for medical facilities that require instruments meeting these specific regulatory standards.

Is the speculum easy to adjust?

The instrument is designed for precise operation. It features an external lever and a sturdy adjustment screw, which allows for smooth, controlled opening and closing of the blades once inserted.

What defines the specialized black finish?

The finish is a durable, non-reflective black polymer coating. It is specifically engineered to be matte and light-absorbent, which is critical for safety in environments where surgical lasers are in use.

What care is required for this instrument?

Because it is delivered non-sterile, it requires proper reprocessing before initial use. It is a reusable instrument that should be cleaned and subjected to steam sterilization following your facility’s protocols and the ANSI/AAMI ST79 guidelines.
