Description

The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for laser gynecological procedures. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a large speculum with 4-3/4 X 1" blades. It does not have a smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black coating improve surgical safety?

Yes, the non-reflective black polymer coating is specifically engineered for high-energy environments. It significantly enhances safety by reducing laser reflection to less than one-tenth of one percent.

Is this model suitable for patients needing a narrower fit?

Yes. This instrument utilizes the Pederson blade design, which is inherently more narrow than a traditional Graves Speculum. This design allows practitioners to better determine the appropriate fit for individual patient anatomy.

How is the speculum sterilized for reuse?

This instrument is designed for durability and repeated use. It complies with the ANSI/AAMI ST79 steam sterilization protocols, supporting both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle steam sterilization methods.

What materials are used to ensure long-term durability?

The speculum is constructed from high-quality stainless steel that has been sandblasted and then coated with a specialized, non-reflective black polymer to provide a robust and reusable clinical tool.

Are there any concerns regarding skin sensitivity or biocompatibility?

No. The instrument is manufactured in accordance with strict ISO 10993 biological testing requirements, ensuring it meets high standards for cytotoxicity and sensitization. Additionally, it is not made with natural rubber latex.

Is this speculum designed specifically for laser procedures?

Absolutely. It is purpose-built for laser gynecological surgery. The specialized matte black finish minimizes hazardous laser glare, making it a safer choice than standard stainless steel tools for these specific applications.

Can you explain how the blade adjustment works?

The speculum is inserted while the blades are in a closed position for patient comfort. Once placed, it is opened using a precise external lever and screw mechanism, allowing the practitioner to adjust the opening width as needed.

Does this model include smoke evacuation features?

This specific configuration does not include a smoke evacuation tube or attachment loops. It is designed as a standalone tool optimized for laser procedures where such attachments are not required.

What are the specific dimensions of the blades?

This is a Large size model, which features blade dimensions of 4-3/4 inches by 1 inch.

Is this product TAA compliant?

Yes, this instrument is TAA Compliant, meeting the requirements for medical devices utilized in government-related or public health clinical settings.
