Description

The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is used for laser gynecological procedures. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The blades of the Pederson Speculum are more narrow than the blades of the Graves Speculum. The practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Black Pederson Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is an extra-small speculum with 2-3/4" X 1/2" blades. It does not have a smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does this speculum effectively minimize laser reflection?

Yes, this instrument is specifically engineered for laser safety. It features a specialized Sklar Black non-reflective polymer coating applied over a sandblasted surface. This design ensures that laser reflection is reduced to less than one-tenth of a percent (<0.1%), creating a safer environment for both patients and staff.

Is the material safe for patient contact?

Absolutely. This speculum has been rigorously tested to ensure patient safety. It is fully compliant with ISO 10993 standards for both cytotoxicity and sensitization. Furthermore, it is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a suitable choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

How should I sterilize this reusable instrument?

This speculum is designed for repeated use and is fully compatible with professional sterilization protocols. It adheres to ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards for both Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle steam sterilization, ensuring it can be safely reprocessed between procedures.

Why is the Pederson design preferred for this procedure?

The Pederson (duckbill) design is specifically favored for its narrower blade profile compared to the Graves design. This makes it an ideal choice for procedures where a more delicate or precise fit is required, allowing for greater comfort and ease of use in specific gynecological applications.

Does this model include smoke evacuation features?

This specific variant does not include smoke evacuation components. It is designed without tubes or loops, providing a streamlined instrument configuration if smoke evacuation is not required for your specific procedure.

Is this a high-quality, durable surgical instrument?

Yes. The instrument is constructed from high-quality stainless steel coated with a specialized polymer. It is engineered for long-term clinical use and is backed by a lifetime warranty, reflecting the manufacturer’s commitment to durability and surgical excellence.

What are the specific dimensions of this extra small size?

This model is designated as ‘Extra Small’ to accommodate specific anatomical needs. The blades measure 2-3/4 inches in length by 1/2 inch in width.

Is this product TAA compliant?

Yes, this instrument meets Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliance standards, making it suitable for use in facilities and government contracts that require TAA-compliant surgical equipment.

How is the blade opening mechanism operated?

The speculum is designed for easy and precise control. It is inserted with the blades in a closed position and is subsequently opened using a reliable external lever and screw mechanism, allowing for smooth and stable adjustments during the examination.

Does the coating impact the instrument's longevity?

The Sklar Black polymer coating is expertly bonded to a sandblasted stainless steel base. Because it is designed for frequent clinical environments, the coating is highly durable and maintains its non-reflective, safety-enhancing properties through repeated steam sterilization cycles.
