Description

The Sklar Black Graves Vaginal Speculum is used for laser gynecological procedures. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever and screw. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. The Sklar Black Graves Vaginal Speculum is available with a permanent smoke evacuation tube, a loop for disposable smoke evacuation tubing, or no smoke evacuation. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. This product is a large speculum with 4-1/2" X 1-3/8" blades. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does this speculum effectively minimize laser reflection?

Yes, this instrument features a specialized Sklar Black non-reflective polymer coating applied over sandblasted stainless steel. This design significantly reduces laser reflection to less than 0.1%, ensuring a safer environment during gynecological laser procedures.

Is the smoke evacuation feature permanent?

Yes, this model is equipped with an integrated permanent smoke evacuation tube. This feature is specifically designed to manage surgical byproducts effectively during procedures.

How does the Graves design differ from other specula?

The Graves design is distinguished by its wider blades, measuring 4-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width. This provides a broader exposure compared to the narrower Pederson style, offering clinicians greater flexibility based on specific patient needs.

Can this instrument be safely sterilized?

Yes, this instrument is fully compatible with standard sterilization workflows. It is validated for Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization in accordance with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards.

Is this product safe for patients with latex allergies?

Absolutely. This speculum is guaranteed to be not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring safety for patients and staff with latex sensitivities.

Does this instrument meet medical regulatory requirements?

Yes, the speculum complies with rigorous biological testing standards, including:

  • ISO 10993 requirements for cytotoxicity and sensitization.
  • TAA compliance for quality and manufacturing standards.
How durable is the construction of the speculum?

Constructed from high-grade stainless steel and finished with a durable, sandblasted polymer coating, this instrument is designed for long-term clinical use. It is a reusable, factory-new surgical instrument backed by a lifetime guarantee.

How is the blade movement controlled during use?

The speculum uses a reliable external lever and screw mechanism. The device is inserted while closed, and the blades are then adjusted manually using the screw system for precise positioning.

Are there different sizes available for this model?

This specific variant is the Large size configuration. It is designed to provide the specific blade dimensions (4-1/2” X 1-3/8”) required for practitioners who prefer the wider Graves-style exposure.

Does the black coating wear off easily?

No, the Sklar Black polymer coating is engineered to be a durable, integrated finish over the sandblasted stainless steel body. It is specifically formulated to withstand the rigors of repeated steam sterilization while maintaining its non-reflective properties.
