Description

The Sklar Black Auvard Weighted Vaginal Speculum is a single end vaginal speculum commonly used in laser OB/GYN procedures. It is available with various blades styles and three weight choices in order to accommodate the needs of the patient and the procedure. The weight holds the speculum in place and provides an open view for the surgeon to perform procedures. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. Sklar Black laser coatings are guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects. This product has a 2-3/4" x 1-1/2" blade with a medium, 2-1/2 pound weight. It has a permanent smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black coating safe for laser procedures?

Yes. The speculum features a specialized non-reflective black polymer coating over sandblasted stainless steel. This finish is engineered to reduce laser reflection to less than 0.1%, significantly enhancing safety for both patients and medical staff during laser interventions.

Does it include a way to manage surgical smoke?

Yes, this instrument is equipped with a permanent smoke evacuation tube. This integrated feature helps maintain a clear and unobstructed surgical field, as well as better air quality, throughout the procedure.

How does the weight help during surgery?

The 2.5 lb weighted base provides consistent, hands-free stability. By securely maintaining the vaginal opening, it allows the clinician to focus entirely on the surgical task without needing to manually hold the instrument in place.

Can this be reused after sterilization?

Yes, this is a reusable surgical instrument. It is built to meet ANSI/AAMI ST79 steam sterilization validation standards, ensuring it can withstand repeated sterilization cycles in a professional clinical environment.

What is the quality grade of this instrument?

This product is manufactured to Sklar OR grade standards. It is designed for durability and precision, meeting rigorous ISO 10993 biological testing requirements for professional surgical use.

Is the material safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes. The Sklar Black Laser Auvard Weighted Vaginal Speculum is not made with natural rubber latex, making it a safe choice for patients with latex sensitivities.

Are the dimensions suitable for standard procedures?

The speculum features a medium-sized blade with dimensions of 2-3/4” x 1-1/2”. This standard sizing is specifically designed to provide effective and reliable retraction during gynecological surgeries.

Is this product compliant with trade regulations?

Yes, the instrument is TAA compliant, meeting the necessary requirements for government and institutional procurement.

Does the finish come with any protection?

While the instrument itself includes a lifetime warranty, the specialized polymer coating is guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects, ensuring long-term performance of the non-reflective surface.

How should this speculum be maintained?

To ensure longevity and safety, the instrument should be processed according to ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards for steam sterilization. Because of its specialized coating, it should be handled with care to maintain the integrity of the non-reflective surface.
