Description

The Sklar Black Auvard Weighted Vaginal Speculum is a single end vaginal speculum commonly used in laser OB/GYN procedures. It is available with various blades styles and three weight choices in order to accommodate the needs of the patient and the procedure. The weight holds the speculum in place and provides an open view for the surgeon to perform procedures. Sklar Black Laser instruments feature a non-reflective black polymer coating applied over the sandblasted instrument developed specifically for laser surgeries. This safe, durable coating reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, ensuring a safer surgical environment for patients and surgical staff. All Sklar Black coated instruments comply with biological testing requirements for cytotoxicity, sensitization regulatory, and ISO 10993 requirements. They also comply with the Pre-Vacuum and Gravity Cycle Steam Sterilization Validation of ANSI/AAMI ST79. Sklar Black laser coatings are guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects. This product has a extra long blade which is 4" x 1-3/4" with a medium 2-1/2 pound weight. It does not have a smoke evacuation tube.

Frequently asked questions

Does this speculum effectively minimize laser reflection?

Yes, this instrument is specifically engineered for laser surgery safety. It features a sandblasted, non-reflective Sklar Black polymer coating that reduces laser reflection to less than one-tenth of a percent, significantly lowering the risk of accidental reflection during procedures.

Is this durable enough for frequent sterilization?

Absolutely. The instrument is built to withstand repeated use and is fully compliant with ANSI/AAMI ST79 standards for pre-vacuum and gravity cycle steam sterilization, ensuring it remains reliable and clean for ongoing clinical use.

How heavy is the instrument for stabilization?

This model features a medium weight of 2.5 pounds. This specific weight configuration is designed to provide optimal stability, securely holding the speculum in place to maintain an open surgical field without the need for manual retraction.

Does the blade size allow for good access?

Yes, this unit comes with an extra-long blade measuring 4 inches by 1.75 inches. This extended length is specifically intended to provide the reach and exposure necessary for comprehensive surgeon access during OB/GYN procedures.

Are the materials safe for patient contact?

Yes. The instrument has undergone rigorous biological testing and complies with ISO 10993 requirements, covering cytotoxicity and sensitization to ensure patient safety. Additionally, the device is not made with natural rubber latex.

What kind of quality guarantee does it have?

The instrument is backed by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Furthermore, the specialized Sklar Black polymer coating is explicitly guaranteed for one year against manufacturing defects.

Is this model suitable for TAA-compliant facilities?

Yes, this Sklar Black Laser Auvard Weighted Vaginal Speculum is fully TAA compliant, making it a suitable choice for medical facilities and government contracts that require adherence to Trade Agreements Act regulations.

What is the primary material underneath the coating?

The core of the instrument is crafted from high-quality, durable stainless steel. This provides the necessary structural integrity for the device, which is then sandblasted and finished with the proprietary non-reflective polymer coating.

Does this include a smoke evacuation tube?

No, this specific configuration does not include a smoke evacuation tube. It is designed primarily for providing stable, unobstructed visualization during laser-based OB/GYN surgeries.

Is this speculum considered a reusable instrument?

Yes, this is a reusable medical instrument. It is designed for longevity and is factory new, meant to be cleaned and steam-sterilized between patients according to your facility’s standard protocols.
