Description

Merit Sterile Spencer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. They are most commonly available in lengths of 3-1/2" and 4-1/2" and therefore typically have smaller, more delicate tips that are used for removing smaller sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. Merit Sterile instruments are ready-to-use, sterile, disposable, office-grade instruments sold in bulk quantities.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors safe for patients with latex allergies?

Yes, these Merit Sterile Spencer scissors are 100% latex-free. They are not manufactured with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for clinical environments.

Is the stainless steel quality reliable for precision work?

Yes, these instruments are crafted from high-quality stainless steel. This durable material provides the reliability and precision required for professional medical procedures, ensuring the blades perform consistently during suture removal.

How does the hook tip help during suture removal?

The specialized hook-shaped tip on one blade is designed to:

  • Slide effortlessly under the suture.
  • Gently lift the thread.
  • Prevent slippage from the cutting edge, which allows for a clean, safe, and efficient incision.
Are these suitable for busy clinics needing efficient workflow?

Absolutely. Because these are pre-sterilized and disposable, they are designed to streamline your workflow by:

  • Eliminating the need for time-consuming cleaning and sterilization processes.
  • Ensuring a sterile, ready-to-use instrument for every patient.
Can I use these scissors for cutting tissue?

No. These scissors are specifically engineered and optimized for suture removal only. They should not be used to cut tissue, as their geometry and hook-tip design are intended strictly for managing surgical thread.

Is the 4-1/2 inch size ideal for delicate procedures?

Yes, the 4-1/2 inch length is considered a standard, compact size. This makes the scissors perfectly suited for delicate work, providing the necessary control and maneuverability to remove smaller, fine-gauge sutures accurately.

What is the benefit of the blunt tip configuration?

The blunt/blunt (B/B) tip configuration is a deliberate safety feature. It minimizes the risk of accidental injury to the surrounding skin or tissue when you are maneuvering the blade underneath a suture.

Are these considered professional-grade instruments?

Yes, they are classified as Merit Sterile physician-grade instruments. This rating indicates that they meet the high standards required for use in professional medical and office-based clinical environments.

Does the purchase include enough units for high-volume needs?

Yes, they are sold in a bulk case (CS 25), providing you with 25 individually sterile units per order, which is ideal for busy offices that require a consistent, high-turnover supply of sterile tools.

How should I handle the scissors during a procedure?

The scissors feature a classic finger ring handle style, which offers a familiar, ergonomic grip. This design allows for maximum tactile feedback and precision control when lifting and cutting sutures.
