Description

Merit Sterile Spencer Stitch Scissors are primarily used for suture removal. These scissors have a small hook shaped tip on one blade that slides under sutures to slightly lift them before cutting for removal. This hook also holds the suture so it does not slip off the blade of the scissors prior to cutting. They are most commonly available in lengths of 3-1/2" and 4-1/2" and therefore typically have smaller, more delicate tips that are used for removing smaller sutures. They should not be used for cutting tissue. Merit Sterile instruments are ready-to-use, sterile, disposable, office-grade instruments sold in bulk quantities.

Yes, these scissors are completely latex-free, making them a safe choice for use in clinical environments where patients may have latex sensitivities.

What is the primary benefit of the hook-tipped blade?

The integrated hook-shaped tip provides two major clinical advantages:

  • Precision Elevation: It slides effortlessly under the suture to lift it safely away from the skin.

Can these scissors be used for cutting human tissue?

No, these instruments are strictly intended for suture removal only. They are not designed for tissue dissection or any other surgical cutting applications.

Are these suitable for high-turnover medical environments?

Absolutely. Being sterile and disposable, these scissors eliminate the time and cost associated with sterilization processing, which is ideal for busy outpatient clinics, hospitals, and physician offices.

What kind of material are these suture scissors made from?

These instruments are constructed from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring a reliable and professional-grade performance for every use.

Are these effective for smaller suture types?

Yes, they are specifically crafted with delicate tips and a 3-1/2” length, providing the fine control necessary for removing smaller sutures with ease and accuracy.

Do I need to sterilize these before the first use?

No sterilization is required. They arrive ready-to-use in sterile packaging, allowing you to integrate them immediately into your workflow.

What is the design of the working edge?

The scissors feature a smooth, straight working edge, engineered to deliver clean, precise cuts through suture material.

What makes these 'office-grade' compared to standard scissors?

  • Precision: Fine tips for delicate procedures.
  • Safety: Hooked tips to protect the patient’s skin.
  • Efficiency: Single-use sterile design to minimize cross-contamination risks.
