Description

Merit Graefe Fixation Forceps are thumb forceps used in ophthalmologic procedures, often in veterinary health. In veterinary procedures these forceps are used to hold the third eyelid, also known as the TEL. The Merit Graefe forceps are useful for holding this delicate tissue firmly because of the fine serrations. This product is straight with 4mm flat, serrated jaws and an overall length of 4-1/4 inches. It does not have a locking catch mechanism but there is a stop peg to prevent an overly harsh grasp on the tissue being held.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for delicate surgical procedures?

Yes, these forceps are specifically designed for high-precision tasks. They feature fine, vertically serrated 4mm flat jaws that provide a firm grip on delicate tissues while minimizing trauma, making them ideal for sensitive ophthalmologic and veterinary applications.

Is the stainless steel material durable for repeated use?

Absolutely. These are physician-grade instruments constructed from high-quality stainless steel. They are designed to be reusable and are built to withstand the rigors of professional medical and veterinary environments.

How does the instrument prevent accidental tissue damage?

The forceps include a built-in safety stop peg. This feature is specifically engineered to regulate the grasping pressure and prevent the user from closing the jaws too tightly, ensuring tissue integrity is maintained during procedures.

Does this tool feature a locking mechanism?

No, this model features a non-locking thumb handle design. This is intentional to allow the user full control and quick, manual regulation of the grasping pressure, which is often preferred for rapid, precise tissue fixation.

Can these be used safely for third eyelid procedures?

Yes, these are highly effective for veterinary ophthalmologic work. They are specifically optimized for holding the third eyelid (TEL), providing the steady, controlled grasp needed for such specialized procedures.

Are the materials safe for patients with sensitivities?

Yes, the Merit Graefe Fixation Forceps are latex-free, ensuring they are not made with natural rubber latex and are suitable for patients or clinical environments where latex sensitivity is a concern.

Are these forceps provided in a sterile state?

These instruments are supplied non-sterile. They should be properly cleaned and sterilized according to your facility’s protocols before being used in any surgical or clinical procedure.

What is the total length of the forceps?

The instrument measures 4-3/4 inches in length, providing a compact and manageable profile that is standard for precise ophthalmologic surgical tools.
