Description

Econo Utility Scissors are a multipurpose instrument used for cutting non-sterile materials such as dressings, casts, and surgical drapes. These scissors are angled and have one serrated blade and one smooth blade. The flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade greatly reduces the likelihood of skin being nicked if the scissors are used for cutting material that is on the patient, such as clothing or bandages. They should never be used to cut tissue or sutures. One plastic finger ring is larger than the other for maximized control while cutting. Econo instruments are Sklar's floor-grade, disposable instruments and are sold in bulk quantities. This item is sold in boxes of 50.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors safe for cutting materials on patients?

Yes, these scissors are specifically engineered with a flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade. This design significantly minimizes the risk of accidental skin nicks, making them a safe choice for cutting bandages, drapes, or clothing directly on a patient.

Do these scissors handle tough medical materials effectively?

Absolutely. The scissors feature a hybrid blade system that ensures efficient cutting:

Serrated blade: Provides grip and prevents slipping on tough fabrics.

Smooth blade: Works in tandem to ensure a clean, precise cut.

Angled profile: Improves leverage when cutting through multi-layered dressings or drapes.

Will these fit comfortably for long periods of use?

The scissors feature an ergonomic handle design with offset finger rings. One ring is intentionally larger than the other, which allows for a more natural grip, better control, and reduced hand fatigue during extended or repeated use.

Are these made from latex-free materials?

Yes, the Econo Multi-Cut Utility Scissors are 100% latex-free and are not made with natural rubber latex, ensuring they are safe for use in environments where latex allergies are a concern.

Can I use these for surgical procedures or sutures?

No. These are floor-grade, disposable utility instruments intended solely for cutting non-sterile materials like clothing, surgical drapes, and bandages. They are not designed or intended for cutting living tissue or surgical sutures.

Are these scissors sterile right out of the box?

No, these scissors are provided as non-sterile instruments. They are intended for immediate utility use in environments where the focus is on quick, safe, and disposable access to materials rather than surgical sterility.

Is the stainless steel durable enough for utility work?

Yes, they are constructed from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring the blades remain sturdy and effective for their intended utility tasks. Despite being disposable, they are built to meet the rigorous demands of medical and clinical settings.

Why is the yellow color significant?

The bright, high-visibility yellow handle serves a functional purpose:

Easy Identification: Allows medical staff to quickly spot and identify the tool in busy clinical environments.

Standardization: Helps distinguish these specific disposable utility scissors from other surgical instruments.

How many scissors come in each case?

Each case contains 50 individual units. This bulk packaging is designed to be an economical solution for clinics and hospitals, eliminating the overhead costs associated with the repeated sterilization and maintenance of reusable metal instruments.

What is the primary benefit of the floor-grade design?

The ‘Econo’ floor-grade design offers a cost-effective, high-utility solution. By using these as disposable instruments, facilities can significantly reduce the workflow burden and financial costs associated with cleaning, decontaminating, and sharpening traditional reusable surgical scissors.
