Description

Econo Utility Scissors are a multipurpose instrument used for cutting non-sterile materials such as dressings, casts, and surgical drapes. These scissors are angled and have one serrated blade and one smooth blade. The flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade greatly reduces the likelihood of skin being nicked if the scissors are used for cutting material that is on the patient, such as clothing or bandages. They should never be used to cut tissue or sutures. One plastic finger ring is larger than the other for maximized control while cutting. Econo instruments are Sklar's floor-grade, disposable instruments and are sold in bulk quantities. This item is sold in boxes of 12.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors safe to use near patient skin?

Yes, these scissors are designed with a flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade. This specific design feature significantly reduces the risk of accidentally nicking a patient’s skin while cutting dressings, bandages, or clothing directly on them.

What materials are these utility scissors best suited for?

These are ideal for cutting non-sterile, high-volume materials, including:

Dressings and gauze

Adhesive wraps

Surgical drapes

Casts and cloth fabrics

Please note that these are not intended for cutting tissue or sutures.

How does the serrated blade design improve performance?

The scissors feature a hybrid blade design: one serrated blade paired with one smooth blade. This combination is engineered to provide superior grip and consistent cutting efficiency when handling tough or slippery materials like bandages and medical drapes.

Do these scissors offer good control during use?

Absolutely. The handle design features asymmetrical finger rings, where one ring is intentionally larger than the other. This ergonomic layout is crafted to maximize your leverage and operational control during repetitive cutting tasks.

Are these instruments made with latex?

No, the Econo Multi-Cut Utility Scissors are explicitly not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for environments with latex-sensitive patients or staff.

Are these scissors considered durable for a disposable item?

Yes, although they are classified as ‘econo floor grade’ for disposable use, they are constructed from high-quality stainless steel. This ensures you get reliable, consistent performance throughout the life of the instrument.

What is the best way to handle these for high-volume settings?

Because they are provided in bulk boxes of 12, they are perfect for high-traffic areas such as:

First aid stations

Clinical outpatient settings

Educational simulation labs

Emergency response kits

Are these scissors autoclavable or meant for reuse?

These instruments are categorized as disposable (single-use). They are designed to be a cost-effective solution for facilities that prefer to avoid the time and expense associated with cleaning and re-sterilizing instruments.

Why are they called 'angled' utility scissors?

The angled geometry of the blades is intentional. This shape improves visibility and maneuverability, allowing you to cut materials more easily while keeping your hand in a comfortable, ergonomic position relative to the surface you are working on.

Is the stainless steel grade suitable for sterile environments?

These scissors are supplied as non-sterile instruments. They are specifically intended for cutting non-sterile materials. If your procedure requires sterile instrumentation, please ensure they are processed accordingly or select an alternative sterile-packaged option.
