Description

Econo Utility Scissors are a multipurpose instrument used for cutting non-sterile materials such as dressings, casts, and surgical drapes. These scissors are straight and have one serrated blade and one smooth blade. The flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade greatly reduces the likelihood of skin being nicked if the scissors are used for cutting material that is on the patient, such as clothing or bandages. They should never be used to cut tissue or sutures. One plastic finger ring is larger than the other for maximized control while cutting. Econo instruments are Sklar's floor-grade, disposable instruments and are sold in bulk quantities. This item is sold in boxes of 12.

Frequently asked questions

Are these scissors safe for use near skin?

Yes, these scissors are designed with a flattened, wide, blunt tip on the serrated blade. This specific safety feature is engineered to significantly minimize the risk of nicking a patient’s skin while cutting materials directly on them.

Can these cut through tough medical materials?

Absolutely. The scissors feature a hybrid blade design: one serrated blade for gripping and one smooth blade for precision. This combination ensures reliable performance when cutting through various non-sterile materials, including:

  • Dressings
  • Casts
  • Surgical drapes
Do these provide a comfortable grip for prolonged use?

Yes, they feature asymmetrical finger rings, where one ring is larger than the other. This ergonomic design provides superior control, leverage, and comfort for the user during routine clinical tasks.

Are these scissors made with latex materials?

No, the Econo Multi-Cut Utility Scissors are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a suitable option for environments or users with latex sensitivities.

What is the primary intended use for these scissors?

These are strictly for non-sterile material application. They are ideal for:

  • Cutting bandages and gauze
  • Removing surgical drapes
  • Assisting with cast removal

Note: These should never be used on human tissue or for suturing.

Are they durable despite being disposable?

These scissors are part of the Econo floor-grade line, which balances cost-effectiveness with functional utility. They feature stainless steel blades and durable plastic rings, ensuring they remain robust enough to handle high-volume clinical tasks efficiently.

How many scissors come in a single purchase?

Each purchase is a convenient bulk box containing 12 individual pairs of utility scissors.

What is the advantage of the angled design?

The angled architecture of these scissors improves visibility and ergonomics. By offsetting the blades from the handle, it is easier to maneuver the scissors against flat surfaces, such as when cutting a dressing close to a patient’s limb.

Are these scissors sterile?

No, these are non-sterile instruments. They are intended for single-use applications involving non-sterile medical materials.

Are these suitable for a home healthcare kit?

Yes, they are an excellent addition to home healthcare kits, emergency bags, or medical cabinets. Their design makes them perfect for quick, reliable material cutting during dressing changes or medical material preparation at home.
