Description

Econo Littauer Cutting Forceps are a non-ratcheted, plier handle instrument used primarily for cutting nail and bone. As nail nippers they are used for nail debridement. They may also be used to nip delicate bones found in the facial and nasal region, or small animal (mice) veterinary procedures. The short, sharp blades are able to produce enough force to cut through thick nail and small bone, but delicate enough not to cause trauma to surrounding tissue or organs. This is particularly helpful with nail debridement which should be completed in short, small sections to avoid damage to the hyponychium. Econo instruments are Sklar's floor-grade, disposable instruments and are sold in bulk quantities. This product is straight with smooth edges and an overall length of 5 inches. It is sold in boxes of 12.

Frequently asked questions

Are these forceps suitable for cutting thick nails?

Yes. These forceps are specifically engineered with short, sharp blades designed to exert the necessary force to cut through thick nails while maintaining enough precision to avoid trauma to the surrounding sensitive tissue, such as the hyponychium.

Are these instruments durable enough for regular clinical use?

Yes, they are professional-grade instruments from Sklar. While they are designed as a cost-effective, floor-grade disposable solution, they are manufactured from high-quality stainless steel to ensure consistent performance in high-volume environments.

Is the handle design comfortable for detailed work?

Absolutely. The plier-style handle is specifically designed for:

  • Comfortable grip: Allows for extended use without fatigue.
  • Controlled cutting: Provides the stability needed for precise, short-section cuts in delicate or sensitive areas.
Can these be used for delicate veterinary procedures?

Yes, these are highly effective for veterinary applications. They are commonly used for nipping delicate bones in the facial or nasal regions of small animals, such as mice, thanks to their balance of power and precision.

Is the material safe for those with latex allergies?

Yes. These Econo Littauer Cutting Forceps are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for practitioners and clinical environments that require latex-free equipment.

Do these forceps require manual opening between cuts?

No. The design includes a flexible metal leaf spring positioned between the handles. This feature ensures smooth, responsive tension, automatically returning the forceps to the open position after every cut for improved workflow efficiency.

What is the total length of these forceps?

These forceps feature a standard, compact length of 5 inches, which is ideal for the maneuverability required in both podiatric debridement and small-animal veterinary surgery.

Are these instruments delivered sterile?

No, these units are supplied non-sterile. Practitioners should follow their facility’s standard protocols for sterilization or preparation before use in surgical or clinical procedures.

How many units are included in a standard box?

Each box contains 12 individual units, providing a convenient and cost-effective bulk solution for clinical settings that require high-utility, disposable instrumentation.

Are these instruments backed by a warranty?

Yes, Sklar provides a lifetime warranty on these instruments, reflecting the manufacturer’s commitment to quality and the durability of their stainless steel craftsmanship.
