Description

The SklarSpec Disposable Graves Vaginal Speculum is a clear plastic speculum used for performing pelvic examinations, Pap Smears, and examining the cervix. It provides 360 degree visibility and one hand operation for the user and greatly reduces temperature shock commonly experienced by patients when a metal speculum is used. It is a double blade duckbill speculum inserted with the blades closed. The blades are then opened by an external lever. The Graves Speculum has wider blades than the Pederson Speculum and the practitioner can best determine which type and size speculum is most appropriate for the patient. Because they are disposable, SklarSpec instruments reduce the likelihood of cross-contamination and eliminate sterilization and reprocessing time and costs. These instruments are available sterile or non-sterile, and in multiple sizes. SklarSpec instruments are available in bulk quantities.

Frequently asked questions

Does the plastic design improve patient comfort?

Yes, the plastic construction is specifically engineered to significantly reduce the temperature shock often associated with cold metal instruments, leading to a more comfortable experience for the patient during exams.

Is the speculum easy to use with one hand?

Absolutely. The SklarSpec is designed for efficient, one-handed operation. A practitioner can easily insert the device in its closed position and expand the blades using the external lever, allowing for free movement of the other hand.

Does the clear material aid in examinations?

Yes, the high-quality clear plastic provides 360-degree visibility, ensuring that clinicians have a comprehensive and unobstructed view of the cervix throughout the examination.

Why is the Graves blade design preferred?

The Graves style features wider blades compared to the Pederson design. This configuration is ideal for practitioners who require greater exposure during pelvic examinations and Pap Smears.

Can these be autoclaved after use?

No. These specula are single-use disposable instruments. They must not be boiled or autoclaved, as the heat will damage the material.

Are these made with latex?

No, the SklarSpec plastic specula are not made with natural rubber latex, making them a safe choice for patients or practitioners with latex sensitivities.

How many units are included in one case?

Each case contains a bulk supply of 100 units, conveniently organized for busy clinical environments that require efficient, high-hygiene supply management.

Does the disposable nature help with office hygiene?

Yes, using disposable specula is an excellent way to improve infection control. It eliminates the need for time-consuming reprocessing and sterilization, which effectively reduces the risk of cross-contamination between patients.

Is this the large version of the speculum?

Yes, this specific listing is for the Large size (Item #96-0877). Sklar also offers Medium and Small sizes within this product line if different dimensions are required for specific clinical needs.

Is this product ready for immediate clinical use?

Yes, these are factory-new instruments supplied in a ready-to-use state. Being disposable, they allow your practice to maintain a streamlined workflow by removing the sterilization step from your standard pelvic exam protocol.
